So we see that Islamic Hardliners in Pakistan have burnt an effigy of our Queen and the Union Jack in protest at the knighthood bestowed on Salman Rushdie. Don't they realise how offensive that act is to British people by insulting our Queen and national flag? Or perhaps they do and this is just another act of psychological terrorism towards the British people? I really fear for this country with fanatacism like that at work ......... anyone agree?

I totally agree with you.

You might find it interesting to read 'Londonistan', by Melanie Phillips. This book addresses exactly the issues you raise with your question. It's brilliantly written and personally, I think it should be compulsive reading for every Brit!

What aggravates me is the hypocrisy. The Muslim world went beserk over those few Danish cartoons - but they are free to insult us and threaten suicide bombings and burn effigies of our Queen just because some mediocre author is getting a knighthood. It's just one big double standard.

I wish so much that the British government would ensure that we all had to abide by the same code. How is it that in London, some months back, Muslims were allowed to organise a big rally, and they were permitted to carry placards calling for more suicide attacks against the UK? And the police were drafted in to ensure the Muslims were 'allowed to conduct their rally in peace'!!!!!

It's ABSURD.

The real game is to polarise opinion in this country. There are hundreds of thousands of ordinary muslims going about their everyday business working in shops, restaurants, hospitals, law courts and universities who probably wish the rest of the UK citizenry no harm whatsoever and who would be repelled and appalled by the instution of Sharia Law here. Militant Fundamentalist Islam- the political branch wants to drive a wedge between our people, creating fear and prejudice against 'moderate muslims' and driving the conservative (small c) british to extremes of hostility and persecution (as in NF or BNP), ending up as civil unrest and 'politicisation' of muslim citizens with civil disturbance and bomb outrages. We must all react with calm determination to prevent this situation. The minister for religious affairs in Pakistan should be rebuked and made to apolgise for his inflamnatory remarks-this would help!

what a cheek burning effigies of the Queen of our country, that look after the immigrant ones in the UK. If they hate us so much why do they continue to pour into the UK. I wish they would all just go back to their homeland

It seems to me that Islamic terrorists need very little to give them a cause. By their violent actions they bring every decent Muslim into disrepute and possible danger. They don't seem to care who gets hurt, whether it is othe Muslims or not. Perhaps, though, there is an element of fatal
ism in Islam, which stops ordinary decent Muslims from protesting. I wish I knew how the mainstream feel but you do tend to get different messages.

Of course they know it is offensive. That is why they do it. They must realise we live in a crazy country that allows these Islamic hardliners to live here and pretty much do the same thing here without punishment.

I just didn't think the book was good enough to justify the £10 million a year protection expenses, try reading it. At the end of the day the score is Salmon: infinite protection, huge wealth and fame The UK: well we pay for it.
He knew what he was doing, surely if MI5 can off our own weapons inspectors because they have the power to embarrass those in power we could offer the cheapest easiest place to look after Salmon from, say the Falklands or Hebrides.

Yeah, You see, they burn our flags all the time and we really don't say anything, but if we burnt one of their flags, they would use that as an excuse to set off a car bomb in some free country.

thecaptain_177: In their Koran, it tells all followers of Islam to kill all infidels (those who don't follow the ways of Islam). It is their religion that is hateful.

Hi Michelle P,

THE INEXORABLE MARCH OF THE FOLLOWERS OF???

1. It is a moot point whether your question is:

a. Stupid; or

b. Sublimely provocative.

2. Rushdie: who he? Who cares?

3. Get a life (read DTeacher's response and reconsider your approach very carefully): why not read the Koran - surely there is at least one sura which will help you to adopt a more civilised stance.

Vaya con Dios,

I didn't really want to answer this question as I feel like ranting and raving at the lies and tripe that people like Natalya and the racist ritefiledloadocrap post. However, for the sake of decent minded people such as Rosie above, I would like to offer my twopennorth.

Most muslims (remember, there are OVER 1.2 Billion) are shocked and saddened by the extreme fundamentalists. The problem is that these idiots give free licence to the racists to come crawling out of the woodwork and vent their frustrations and bile at any Muslim within firing distance. The same people call all black people muggers, all Jewish people spendthrifts. These fools still believe that all Asians have corner shops (maybe they should actually check up on the 100 richest people in Britain - a number of Asians feature). They completely ignore the fact that several are successful businessmen, Doctors, Lawyers, Senior Managers etc etc.

In relation to the burning of flags etc...one should pause for a second and try to put this into it's true context before proclaiming counter racism from the rooftops. Most of the people involved in this are poor peasants who have been whipped into a frenzy by some of the hardliners mentioned previously. Many of these protesters are illiterate manual workers who are fed 'twisted stories' and then react in a flood of emotion. I am not trying to condescend towards these people - far from it. I am merely attempting to highlight the need for a better understanding of some of the actions.

I do take issue with the comments by the 'questioner' and I use that term loosely, '..don't they realise how offensive that act is to British people...' and '...psychological terrorism towards the British people...'

I suppose you didn't think to apply the same thinking when this ridiculous knighthood was so provocatively bestowed upon one so undeserving?

You say you really fear for this country....so do I. There are just so many racists about and more seem not to be afraid to voice their vile rants. I pray that this phenomenon is unique to YA and similar forums and does not truly represent the thought processes of my fellow British Citizens.

It's a sad indictment of the way Race Relations has been handled over the last 10 or even 20 years that we do not appear to have truly moved forward in any great measure from the openly racist days when I was younger and witnessed and heard of 'Paki-bashing' and other vile acts.

The only subtle difference being that now the racists use COVERT racism as opposed to OVERT racism.

Edit:
For the numpties that love to spout LIES, the Qur'aan states quite clearly (check it out)

'THERE IS NO COMPULSION IN RELIGION'

Don't fall for the hype...it's just tripe.

PEACE.

Addition:
Oh look, the racist nmore (who used to call herself avie but got so much stick off decent YA people that she changed her moniker) is back as well. I love how she tries to pass herself as all friendly and nice on some posts but hides her Q&A's because she does not want to admit openly just how racist and abusive she is. You and your ilk make me vomit.
