I had a 1987 Virago 535. It had two problems. The Regulator/Rectifier kept burning out until I replaced it with one from a Honda. The oil filter cover always leaked. Aside from that it was great! A lot of fun.

Not in servicing.. you will not have a problem there (unless you want exclusively the dealer to look at it).

The only issue I could point out about Viragos is the starter motor. I had mine rebuilt three times and even got a new one... It starts slipping in about 6 months. (My bike was a daily driver thus)

Other than that... it is a nice bike!!!!!

Happy Riding!

Our local Yamaha dealer won't even work on a bike that's over five years old. Check with yours. Lots of times its better to find a reliable independent shop for work on older machines because the new techs at the dealerships are only trained to work on new models.

It shouldn't be a problem unless your talking about major engine repair.
Call the shops in your area and ask if they will work on it.
Some shops won't even let a bike over 10 years old in the door.
Independent shops will work on anything.
That's why you should call around.
