Ok so my friend is an idiot and did this during one of my little league games and I was wondering if it is actually possible for your to do this in a game. He stole second base and was safe but he thougght he heard the bat hit the ball so he ran back to first base to tag up and was tagged out. Is it possible for him to be out if he was safe at second?

Absolutely. That is not running the bases on reverse order no is it abandoning the attempt to advance. It is just a mistake that cost your team an out.

If he hadn't returned to first base, yes, he was called out correctly. If he had returned to first base and was tagged while on the base, he should have been called safe.

Yes. In baseball, if you're off the base, and tagged with the ball, you're out.

If no time out was called and he was tagged of of any base, than he is out.

If they tagged him and he was off the base for whatever reason, he's out.

If the umpire or pitcher called time then no he should have still been safe. But essentially he could still be out if time was not called.

yes, he was off the base. You can be out if you're off the base.
