In SE Asia the bit with passport on it,really.I have never once been asked for my licence,not even by the police

Depends what country in Asia. Singapore and Vietnam have very different rules. Take both parts of your UK licence and also and international licence. You will also need a credit card.

I have rented motorbikes in every country in asia. Not once have I been asked for a license. still living in Vietnam and ride the bike every day.

You need an International Driver's License... you can get it at any AAA Office
