I see you are 19 or 20, why not try a year abroad as a student or au pair?

My former colleague was from New Zealand. He did a year abroad here in the Czech Republic and towards the end of the year decided he wanted to stay longer, started job hunting and the company where I worked hired him and handled the visa paperwork. He stayed here for two years before deciding to go back.

But from him I learned there are plenty of New Zealanders scattered around the globe, all people who just needed to get away from their island for a bit ... or a bit longer.

My suggestion is just to visit both countries first, and then decide. It's better to get an idea of the places you want to move to before you actually do it. Less chance of a mistake that way.

You don't need a visa to visit America from New Zealand. It will help if you have saved some money, have a job and place to live lined up before making the jump. Hope it works out for you.

Well, you can either go through all the legal stuff to get an American Visa or you can take a plane to Mexico City or Monterrey and then take a bus to the border and, with your NZ passport, you can just walk across the border... then overstay your visa like all the people from Mexico, India and Nigeria do and eventually Congress will grant you citizenship
