not necessarily lies but things I've challenged and came out on top of: you can't sleep on the floor, if you divorce then you're excommunicated from the church, if you don't get a degree then you can't get a good job, you'll never be able to wear high heels again, etc.

that if you swallowed your gum your insides would stick together, and if you swallowed a watermelon seed it would grow in your stomach, and the stem end of a cucumber is poisonous, and if you have a wart, you pick it to make it bleed and then wipe the blood on a rag and bury it in the yard, and your wart will fall off...........yes folks, i grew up with a very elderly great grandmother, i have a million of em but no time today.............

When I was growing up a loved pickled onions. But my mum would never buy them, she told me that you can only buy pickled onions at Christmas time because that's when Santa said it was OK to eat them.

Life was fair. People never hurt children and animals. War never happened- it was just a drill. People stayed married and Santa really was coming to my house .

That "turning the other cheek" meant I couldn't stand up to the mean girls who ridiculed me and hit me at recess. I really wish I had done that, just once.
