115.5 is maximum and 48 is what you get. Short of going broadband, you are pretty much stuck. ~

Theres no way really of physically making the speed faster, you have to just be careful of what your doing.
115.5kbps is the max speed the modem can go at, but the phoneline can only handle 48kbps. I use dialup, a modem of 56kbps, but my phoneline only allows 52kbps.
For making the net seem slightly faster, use a different web browser, Opera is the best friend of dialup users because you can disable images, so if your searching specificly for text, and don't want annoying adverts, you can just turn images off... this also helps with loading pages because its so much faster.
Also, try to keep spyware to a minimum, using a different browser will help this, and using a spyware scanner once every so often (every couple of days or so) should help remove those spyware that do slip through the net (or those installed on the Windows OSs).
Hope thats been of some help :)

In the US, dial-up modems cannot go higher than 52kbps by law, although the hardware may handle 56kbps. The 115kbps setting is there just in case your modem could handle that speed, but in reality is not physically capable.
The only one thing you can do to optimize your bandwidth is to keep it at a minimum by disabling images on your Internet browser, and blocking pop-ups. But who wants to surf the net without images? Get broadband for just a couple more dollars a month.

All the accelerators do on dial up is cache the pages that you visit so they load faster. Obviously this does not work for surfing.
There is not much you can do with dial up - if broadband via cable or DSL is not available - consider satellite.
