I'm 19 years old, and I can't swim. I'm gonna put my ego aside and sign up for a class soon. If anyone has ever taken an adult class, please share your experiences.

i have been teaching adults for 20 years. there is absolutely nothing you need to be ashamed of. knowing how to swim is like having free life insurance.

you will be in a class with others just like you, so go and have fun! don't wimp-out or skip classes. it can be hard at first, but if you stick to it, anyone can learn and become good.

my only advise to you at this point is to relax. i would often tell my students during their first class that "people don't drown because they can't swim; people drown because they panic." swimming can be very relaxing and almost effortless when done properly. relax...

Like Wyatt I have been instructing adult swimming classes for some time. And likewise, I agree with him, it is a great experience!

Adults who sign up for classes generally want to learn to swim which sets them apart from children whose parents sign them up and gives them a common bond immediately. You will meet people in your class with the same story as you or something compeletely off the wall and different but your goals are still the same. This bond helps burture the trust among classmates and makes adult lessons more comfortable for everyone involved.

Go for it, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain! I promise you, you will enjoy yourself and will learn a lot about swimming as well as about yourself ( =

Good luck!!!
