I would have to say the Greeks for their politics. Without this civilization I don't think that democracy would foster anywhere else.

The Mayans and Aztecs and Incas for their scientific discoveries. Their study of astronomy was so far before their time that we still marvel at it today.

The Egyptians for their architecture. The fact that they built what they built when they built it and in what weather conditions they built it in is astonishing to me. And that some of it is still around is even more astonishing.

And the Romans especially for their military, but they rolled all of these into one package. The only place where they lacked was in the area of science. But they conquered the known world and held it under great rulers and a republic that was ground breaking at the time. Their buildings some of which still standing are great to look at. Easter Island fascinates me. Why did their statues face inland and not toward the sea? I have yet to hear a convincing explanation, Thor Heyerdahkl notwithstanding.

It has been shown that Thor's Kon-Tiki voyage to prove that the Pacific Islands were settled from South America was a good adventure based on faulty logic. Polynesians came from the East Indies and New Zealand.

I am interested in many, but yes the Egyptians that interest me the most.
It is the architectural items that have lasted for 1000's of years that fascinate me.
The fact that the so called "primitive" people could build such structures is phenomenal
