I would just get a new thermometer with a suction cup and it will be better.

If it is a stick on, (I would suggest you get yourself one that floats or attaches to the inside of the tank. The stick on kind are not accurate and pick up ambient air temperatures outside the tank) Peel off the backing and place on the glass. It is always best to put the thermometer the farthest from the heater as possiable. That way you have a better reading about the water in the tank. If it is a floater, toss her in Some floats come with a suction cup clip that attaches to the glass and the thermometer clips on. Just remember to put it where you can see it easily

That type of thermometer should of gone on the outside of the tank, as far as possible from the heater. After you peel it off the tank, it wont stick back on. It would be best to get another type of thermometer, the type that has a section cup on it, that type goes inside the tank. They have them for about 1.50 at Wal-Mart in the fish section. The one inside the tank should be pretty easy to peel off since the water should help losen the stickiness.
Hope This Helps!!!!!
By the way, it is best to have the heater horizontal in the tank, and have thermometer as far away from the heater as possible and keep it close to the bottom of the tank, submerged if you get the type of thermometer that suctions. If you get the type you have to stick on, it goes on the outside of the tank where the gravel is, as far from the heater as possible.
Hope This Also Helps!!! :]]

yup... a suction cup thermometer is your best option... you can fix it anywhere on the inside walls of the aquarium, where its in clear view...
a submersible heater with a thermostat is a good idea to install along with the thermometer if you're keeping tropical fishes
