first you have to ger rid of the parenthesis lets start with 3(x+7), so you have to multiply 3 by each number inside the parethesis

3 times x = 3X and 3 times 7= 21, now go to the other side. here you have to get rid of that negative in front of the parenthesis first. so multiply that negative (because there is no number after that negative it means there is a 1) so,
-1 times 3X= -3X and -1 times 3= -3

you should have this:
3X + 21 = 2X-3X-3

okay.. so now you need to put the X's on one side and the number on the other. (always put the x's where its going to be positive so its easier) in this case we are going to put the X's on the right. to change them from one side to the other you change the sign.
so going to have +21 +3 = 2X-3X-3X
solve..... 24= -4X
now divide both sides by -4 so you can have a positive X by itself
24/4 = -4X/-4X
3=X

3(X + 7) = - 2X - (3X + 3)

3X + 21 = - 2X - 3X - 3 {remove parentheses}

8X + 21 = - 3 {add 5X to both sides}

8X = - 24 {subtract 21 from both sides}

X = - 3 {divide both sides by 8}

Check

3(X + 7) = - 2X - (3X + 3)
3(- 3 + 7) = -2(-3) - [3(-3) + 3]
3(4) = 6 - [- 9 + 3]
12 = 6 - [- 6]
12 = 6 + 6
12 = 12

3(X+7)= -2X-(3x+3) distribute 3 & -
3x+21=-2x-3x-3 combine like terms
3x+21=-5x-3 add 5x to each side
8x+21=-3 subtract 21 from each side
8x=-24 divide both sides by 8
x=-3

check
3(-3+7)=-2(-3)-(3(-3)+3)
3*4=6-(-9+3)
12=6-(-6)
12=12

First, get rid of the ( ). Your equation now becomes
3x + 21 = - 2x - 3x - 3. Now, combine terms wherever possible and the equation now becomes
3x + 21 = -5x - 3. Simplifying further, we get
3x + 5x = - 3 -21 and finally,
8x = -24. Divide by 8 and you get x = -3.

For all equations of this kind, you want to make them look like ax = b.

BEDMAS (order of operation)
1. Do all the muliplications to get rid of those brackets:

3x + 21 = -2x -3x -3

2. Move all numbers with x's to the left side, and whole numbers to the right side of the equal sign. Remember that their signs change once they cross over the equal sign (ex. "+" becomes "-", "-" becomes "+", times becomes divide, divide becomes times):

3x +2x +3x = -3 -21

3. Group like terms:

8x = -24

4. Your goal is to isolate x, so divide 8 from both sides (in another word, move "times 8" to the other side, which becomes "divided by 8"):

x = -24/8
x = -3

3(X+7)= -2X-(3x+3)

expand

3x + 21 = -2x - 3x - 3

Combine like terms

3x + 21 = -5x - 3

Subtract 21 from both sides and add -5x to both sides

8x = -24

Solve for x

x = -3

ok...fairly simple....multiply the number on the outside of the brackets to the numbers on the inside...

3(x+7)=-2x-(3x+3)
3x+21=-2x-3x-3

Than take...numbers on one side and x's on the other side(if you change the side...the symbol changes too
3x+2x+3x=-21-3
8x = -24
Make x..subject of the formula

x= -24/8
x= -3

viola !! :D

algebra 2 is a little like algebra. Everything you know from algebra will be useful for algebra 2 cause everything is connected to it. Its more complex and harder than algebra. dont worry, cause if u work hard then when u get to algebra 2 and learn it, it will be more understandable to u.
