Yes, I'm living proof of all of the above. When I had to make it on my own after my marriage ended, I had to learn to fend for myself.

I had to find a good paying job, keep a roof over my head, pay all of the expenses, get a car, and basically advocate for myself.

I did become tough. I had to. It has made me fiercely independent, and I have become more so with the passage of time.

I'm not sure why people think women only have to bat their eyes to get things done. Most of us have to fight every step of the way. In the process we learn just who the stronger sex really is. It is us. Women rock!

I have been alone for most of my adult life, even when I was living w/a bf for 14 years I still felt alone. I am tough to a degree and independent to the end. Some of us just are better at it than others.

I think it does make a person more independent, to a certain degree. It also makes them harder to live w/ for their future spouse. People who live alone for too long, CAN be hard to get along with, after living their way too long.

yes, but it can also turn one into a recluse who becomes used to being alone, therefor favors it over outside interaction. depends on the person. If you are a natural introvert, it will bring you deeper into yourself. If you are an extrovert, you'll go nuts not interacting with other people.

Not always. Ppl who've been alone for a long time find it hard to let others in. I believe that is more of a sign of weakness than it is strength.

Yeah, but it does make it hard to be in relationships. I left home at 16 years old and have been self reliant ever since, but I seem to have trouble with relationships. I am very used to doing my own thing and she kinda has to live with that.

So yes.

Yeah but the downside to that is being so independent that you can't make yourself ask for help even if you really need it. That's what happened to me and it's not good.

Yes, it teaches you to get along without relying on another, but to appreciate a person once you are no longer alone.

Yes ... and if one goes on carrying about that way, he/she will be lonely ... I try to stay occupied, but sometimes I realize that a social life can only help me from myself. No matter how independent/strong, everyone needs someone.
