Setup of AT&T 8525 to Laptop Windows XP using Built in IrDA Ports for data
Prerequisite
AT&T 8525 handset purchased through AT&T
PC with an available Infrared port
User must be logged in as Administrator or have administrator privileges in the profile to modify system files
Setting up the handset
On the PDA, tap on Start and then tap on Programs.
Tap on the Wireless Modem icon.
Ensure that IrDA is selected from the Connection Type drop down list.
Tap on Menu.
Tap Start.
Setting up the modem
On the PC, align the Infrared port of the handset with the Infrared port of the PC.
Windows will recognize the handset and install a Standard Modem Over IR Link.
Click on Start, Settings and then Control Panel.
Double click on Phone and Modem Options.
Click on the Modems tab and click to select Standard Modem Over IR Link.
Click on the Properties button.
Click on the Advanced tab.
Type at+cgdcont=1,"IP","isp.cingular" in the Extra initialization command field.
Click OK twice to return to the Control Panel.
Setting up the connection
On the PC, return to the Control Panel and double click on the Network Connections icon.
Click on Create a new connection.
Click Next on the New Connection Wizard.
Tick Connect to the Internet and click on Next.
Tick Set up my connection manually and click on Next.
Tick Connect using a dial-up modem and click on Next.
Check only the Standard Modem over IR link and click on Next.
Type ATT Data for the ISP Name and click on Next.
Type *99# in the Phone number box and click on Next.
Type ISP@CINGULARGPRS.COM in the User name field.
Type CINGULAR1 in the Password and Confirm Password fields.
Select from the available options below and click on Next.
Click on Finish to complete the setup.
Making the connection
On the PC, return to the Network Connections folder and double click on the ATT Data icon.
Ensure that the Dial field displays *99#.
Click on Dial.
You will now be connected to the AT&T data service

1st check what interfaces are available to your phone:
The most common phone interfaces are:
USB
Infrared
Bluetooth
then check your PC. Almost all have USB and most laptops have IR. For USB, you will need a special cable from cingular. You can also buy very cheap usb-based Blutooth wireless adaptors.
