Why wouldn't you be able to go to college, with or without mom & dad's consent? Now, true enough, if mom & dad aren't providing you with any financial help, that does mean you have a bigger job cut out for you than would be the case for a person whom mom & dad are giving all the momey a student could possibly want or need. But ... that doesn't mean it can't be done Go to the U. S. Department of Education website http://www.ed.gov and fill out your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov . Go to Amazon.com http://www.amazon.com to buy a few scholarship books. Also try http://www.fastweb.com to search for scholarships. When you apply for colleges, look into getting an on-campus dormitory or apartment. Also, if going to college full-time days isn't possible, you might work full-time and go to school part-time by night school or by distance learning.

A couple more side notes:

1. If you are still in high school and not living with your parents, this leads to the questions of how old you are and with whom you are living. As for whose income you base the expected family contribution (EFC) upon, IIRC, that would be the income of whatever parent or guardian actually supported you for the past year.

2. The way to contact colleges is to either call or write to them and ask them to send you their paper-and-print catalogs and applications (which is what people did back in my day --- geez, i must be way mass old!) or (more modernistically) go to the college websites and either fill out their requests for further information or even fill out their online applications for admissions and financial aid.

You can go to college, just maybe not full time and maybe not to an expensive 4-yr college.

One of the first things you need to do when applying for college is apply for financial aid. In order to apply for financial aid you need to fill out a FAFSA (federal application for student aid.) Herein lies the problem. Depending upon the situation with your parents their information may still be necessary on your FAFSA. Even if you are financially and physically independent from them there are various rules regarding their income. Look into the FAFSA and what you would need to declare yourself financially independent on it. If you can establish that independence you will be eligible for more financial aid.

Many of my students work full time and go to college part time. It is also nice if you can find an employer who will help support paying for your schooling.

Also, consider attending a community college (2-yr college) instead of a 4-yr. They are always less expensive, you will generally have smaller classes your first year, and you will be taught by an instructor, not a graduate assistant.

Good luck. Perseverence will definitely pay off, if you want it you can do it.

I would go speak to your high school councelor. You definitley can go to college without your parents, but many financial aid programs dont count you as an individual until you are 23 (conviently the age most people are out of college). However, if your circumstances are severe, they may bypass that and qualify you anyway. If so, depending on what state you live in, you may be able to go free ride or with loans, which isnt so bad as long as you are going to college for a viable degree (not just to study art or something like that - not many people make money in these careers and you may not be able to pay back your loans).

When you choose a college, go speak to their financial aid councelors - they will give you even more options. Good luck and way to go on taking the harder (but more rewarding) road of higher education.

Hi, you can get a cat and still take care of it. Get a food bowl for it and a big bag of cat food and put food in the bowl and get another bowl and put water in it. Alsodon't't forget to buy litter and a litter box. You can make a scratching post so the cat won't mess up the furniture. Open the bag of cat food when you go to a class so if the cat runs out of the food in the food bowl it can have more food. Don't forget to give it a little bit more water (about 6cups of water). Also, get these things in a set and get two cats so the cat won't be lonely but give them twice as much food and water.Regarding the air plane question: No but some people put them in the kennel which is a bad thing. So get a perfect cage (big enought to have a little litter box, food/water tray, and toys). So I'm so happy I'm telling you all the right things. P.S: You can put a cat on a cat leash and walk it during your free time.

I don't know if its different in your state, but in Ohio, if you're under 24 your parents are supposed to sign off on your college loans, regardless if you live with them or not. If you are emancipated then I don't believe you need your parents consent, but if you have a legal guardian then they would have to sign off on your student loan. My best advise is for you to start looking for grants to go to school, and talk to one of your high school advisers. In fact, find out if there are any advisers available now in the summer it may take them the whole year to help you get your grants or scholarship money together. If you can't find any help there, then go to your local community college and see if they can help you there.

Good for you for wanting to go to school, you can also live on campus and more schools are taking into consideration that students are in circumstances such as yours and can have independent student status.
As others have said make your situation perfectly clear to the financial aid offices of the schools you are applying to.

Definately, just call up the college and tell them about your situation. You'll probably get grants and things, and you don't need your parents permission anyway

Of course you can. You'll probably need to work closely with the school of your choice to get financial assistance, though.

Good luck!
