There are two different types of work at home income. Work at home JOBS are like telecommuting. You have a boss and guaranteed assignments. You get those done in a timely fashion and you've got a paycheck, and you probably don't have to pay anything (unless it's something like transcription work and you're paying for your equipment). But your time isn't as flexible with this type of work. There are many legit ones listed in the telecommuting folder at wahm.com.
Then there are work at home BUSINESSES. These usually do require some sort of money from you but this is okay if you are paying for products. Pampered Chef, Mary Kay, Avon are some of the well known one for this type of business. I'm in Watkins (see my profile if you're interested -- it's been around since 1868 and provides the best quality kitchen spices, mixes, etc. in my opinion!) When you join one of these companies, you are paying for your business to get started. You can't start a business without something to sell, material to provide information, etc. If you are paying for this type of thing it's okay. The amount you pay depends with each company. You should be very sure to know exactly what you are paying for. You don't have to have a computer for this type of work, but it helps make things easier if you do, IMO. It just takes less time to submit orders online instead of phoning them in, etc.
Now, I stress that you should NEVER have to pay money for lists of "prospects," just for "information," etc. You should only be willing to pay money to a very reputable company for products. Anything else is a scam.
Now that I've made clear the two different type of work at home opportunities, you've got one of the most important things to figure out: What are your passions, hobbies, etc. What do you naturally enjoy doing? Any type of work you do from home needs to be something you won't hate. It doesn't matter if your neighbor is truly making a million bucks with ease with some company, if you don't naturally enjoy doing that type of thing, you're going to be lucky to make $10. Does this make sense? Think about what you like to do and go from there. There is something out there for nearly any type of niche. For example, I love to write so I went into newspaper work and then started to freelance once I quit my job to be home with my children. I also love to cook so Watkins is a great fit for me. Also, I enjoy helping people so I started doing web stuff that provided resources for people (see my profile).
Okay, the last thing: There is one thing that you can do that won't cost you anything. Google adsense can be set up for free on a free blog and you can make money doing this. BUT it takes time, time, TIME and patience, patience, PATIENCE and WORK to see significant income this way. It takes a while to get the kind of traffic you would need to make this a reliable source of income.
If you're looking for ideas on legit opportunities, I suggest you check out wahm.com. They have SO much information there and have been such a big help to me. I hope I've been of some help! : )

Just a couple of answers (won't get you rich tho).
One is to use any spare room in your home as storage for businesses (recrods). Storage is expensive.
Second is pet care. Start off small looking after cats say. Good money and you can build up as the business grows.
Very easy business to run and real easy money.
Third idea is the standard selling online. Buy from Asia via the internet, and resell via say ebay or whatever.
Sorry nothing more interesting. But at least these are not scams like most tend to be. Good luck.

Hi, I really do like meeting and helping people, but from the way you have phrased the question I get the feeling that you have dealt with some 'scams' in the past. Because you do not allow email, it will be hard to have a conversation. My company is listed with better business bureau, and does in excess of a billion dollars in sales. My company is the number one affiliate partner of Barnes and noble and circuit city. Not sure if that is enough for you to understand that my business is legitimate, but in any event if you really are serious about working from home, I could schedule a time when we could talk. The purpose of this call would really just to find out who you are, what you are looking for,to give you information and to answer your questions.
Sincerely,
Ken Seavert

According to our local news, there are few. Most want money up front, the first thing that says SCAM. Most at home jobs are for people who have been hired by the company and then find that working at home is just as productive, i.e., sales, etc. Tell her to think about jobs that are run as independent contractors from the home such as selling Avon or candles, etc.

You didn't say anything abt. his background or qualifications, so its hard to answer. However, if he is articulate, has some sales skills, and is a self-starter, I may have something of interest. I am hiring a work-from home sales force for a B2B service we are offering. There are no start-up costs for you, but you will need high-speed internet, unlimited long-distance on your phone, a quiet enviroment and motivation. This is NOT MLM or spamming. The commission structure is generous and you will be an independent contractor andreceive a 1099.

There are legitimate work from home opportunities available, some freelance/project based and others are hourly direct-hire or contract positions. Most do require previous experience in specific areas such as programming, tech writing, web design, customer service, virtual assistant, or transcription. You may find that some jobs are limited in specific locations, ask you to pay for your own background/credit check, and require you to have special work equipment already in place.

JetBlue allows ticket agents to work at home through the telephone. If she speaks a foreign language, translation jobs can almost always be done at home.

Hi Frankie,
It took a lot of researching and testing sites out, but I have been able to find some really good ones. I made over $2,000 last month, and all of these sites are free to join.
Please see my profile for more information.
Thanks, and have a great day.
