But is this data normalized? "Declared disasters" are ultimately subjective - by which I mean that such declarations are ultimately political (i.e. process-defined) decisions that are highly correlated with population and population density, as well as to availability of Federal monies.

Check your own figures. Since 1996 was the worse year and the number is down ever since then. BTW disasters include earthquakes, large power outages and some other events that have NOTHING to do with global warming. So, like all global warming proponents you have demonstrated some changes in disasters that don't really correlate to global warming and have not shown the causality of the disasters.

looks pretty much cyclical to me! 7 in 59, 29 in 69, 42 in 79, 31 in 89, 50 in 99 - can't really say it's getting worse of better - just cyclical, but if you want to blame humans for it, by all means, please do so. Global warming is not man made, just the Earth, it's rotation and the effects of the sun! Granted, man may have an influence on it, but to blame us completely is a joke!

While global warming is certainly a concern, the list you gave simply means that the tracking and recording systems are improving. I would bet that the standard for what a natural disaster means has gone down.

Also: have you considered the possibility it might be god punishing us for allowing homosexuality to spread??...

Just kidding :)

How do you know what the average number is supposed to be? Your data only goes to 1953 a mere blink in over-all time. The same is true for average global temperature.
When will you chicken littles get it through your heads that
WE DON'T HAVE ENOUGH DATA YET?

No.
It is because we now Label Everything bad that happens in Nature as a National Disaster.
(And besides, Disasters have nothing to do with Global Warming.....OR Global Cooling.)

Now, go to your favorite Global Warming website. ALL of them will say "Data prior to 1980 is based on assumption, and as such, is made by inferrence" , "However we will continue to use these assumptions in our modeling".
"Do not take these findings as all conclusive as there is not enough Scientific data to make an accurate interpretation".....

Does it ever occur to you that the government may be getting more liberal with what they declare a "National Disaster?"

At least that's how it seems to me.

Research the "little iceage" and be glad we don't have that many disasters. There were volcanoes, famine, drought, plague, whole civilizations died out.
