Do you think that could be why they seem so cold? And are the friends saying this now, because the McCanns have asked them to?
They did ask the friends to "go public".

My thoughts exactly, its about damage limitation, but is too little, too late.
I think someone has obviously told the McCanns that they are being seen as cold, that public opinion is changing towards them and the media could be next. Ask yourself this....would Gerry contact his friends, suddenly, and ask them to go public JUST because they are launching a few balloons? Whats to "go public" about?
I think he contacted them to ask them to "drop" in the interview casually that they are controlled because of their training.....using the pretence of a balloon interview as a cover-up. The agenda was to publically plant a seed in our minds that the McCanns are mourning in private, but putting a brave face on it in public, because they have been trained to be "controlled" under stress. But surely NO amount of training can prepare you for such a personal tragedy as loosing a child, and, if the McCanns were "normal" people, that training would go out of the window?

I could accept the fact that they are in denial because they are unable to come to terms with their grief and that is creating a 'cold' effect. Many people react the same way in shock but they don't actually do anything. In shock they tend to sit and stare into space and beg everyone to tell them it's a nightmare. I have been througjh this and I know. These people, whether in shock or not, very quickly organised a money raising event the donations of which, they turned into a limited company. The first thing they did was hire lawyers. Many people thought that the first thing they would do was hire the best private detective agency that they could.
All the family doctors I have had in my life have been kind human beings who relate to other peoples fears. These people do not.

If I had lost a child it wouldn't matter how much training in control I'd had I wouldn't be able to act unemotional and detached. Even if you are a Doctor people don't expect you to be rediculously brave in this sort or situation, they'd probably prefer to see that you are not afraid to wear your heart on your sleeve and show you're only human! Doctor's are supposed to advise people not to bottle things up and to show their emotions, so how many of their patients would feel comfortable to open up and confide in them if the Doctor appeared to not be able to show any emotions himself.
I've known many professional people who have openly been upset by something despite all their training in control and detachment. Unfortunately I lost two very close family members including a small child in an accident a few years ago and at the funeral the police officer who had been first on the scene of the accident came to pay her respects. She also came as a representative of the police so she was actually on duty and she was in full uniform. She stood in the church and openly broke her heart throughout the service, it was very touching so see someone who had only been doing her job show her feelings and cry so openly. Despite all the training she'd received she couldn't help but show her feelings. That was being brave!
I don't know whether the McCanns are asking their friends to explain why they do things, they obviously must know that some people have been commenting on their controlled appearance. I suppose we all act differently and in life sometimes you can't do right for doing wrong! I just wish somone would find that poor little girl!

Funny how the friends are finally coming out..now that they are subject to some public scrutiny. Funny how the past few days on many forums it has been asked...why have the friends not come forward. I would not be surprised if they have somebody reading these forums that are talking alot about this case. There are a couple of supporters that I have wondered the past week or so if they are part of the McCann Team just because of how certain they are the parents had nothing to do with it when in actuality the proof she was taken by a stranger is no more then the proof her parents did something. So how can anyone be 100% positive unless they are directly involved with what is going on over in Portugal.

Professionalism will only help you sooo far.
That is why doctors are generally not allowed to operate on their own relatives
It's one thing to handle the pressure when its someonelses loved one. When its yours, it becomes a whole different story.
Same reason police ar not allowed to investigate cases with inwhich they have a personal stake.
This is an excuse for how they have acted.
Does this mean they did something to their child? No.
There are some people who are very emotionally detached. And personally, my opinion is they are very much in denial as evidenced by the whole idea that no one could hurt her because she was such a great child. Its easy to hide your emotions when you refuse to accept reality and unfortu nately reality says that this child is most likely dead. That dosnt mean they should stop looking, but deluding yourself that evryhting is going to work out because nobody would harm your child doesnt help either.
And, while they may not have asked their friends to go public, they sure gave them permission to. If it was your friend going through this would you go and talk to the press without asking your friend if it was alright first?

There are so many different theories flying around that I just don't know what to believe, and it's hard to even have an opinion on somewhere like here, where everybody just starts name-calling like children if they disagree with you.
But I do wonder, if she isn't found, whether the day she went missing will turn into a national holiday...
...and Piltdown Man, I've read that post about three times now. It's boring, and I reckon it counts as spamming.

Until now the couple, who have known the McCanns for 12 years, have kept a low profile to shield their own children – Joel, 7, and Noah, 3.
They have clearly only come forward at this time because they have been asked or made to do so. It does seem that a photo of Maddy and Noah was sent to the local newspaper alerting the interest in Guernsey media.
I think it is likely that training and day to day work as a doctor does change your emotional responses whether you want them to ot not and a degree of detachment must occur. Perhaps Shipman is the extreme example.
Emm a thumbs down for this from which set of trenches I'm not sure!

Well I will tell you the real facts. Don't believe everything you hear, see, or read. The fact is the McCanns are neglecting because a meal was more important to them then looking after their children and as a result of their neglect they have lost a daughter.

where emotions are concerned no profession can account for a 'controlled' behaviour, in one's hour of grief even the toughest people cry. i agree, they are doing 'damage control' now that the public is voicing the strange lack of emotion from this group. So tell me, gerry's brother and sister (they are both teachers), do their profession have to contribute to lack of emotion to the situation here?.

Yes I do agree with the fact that by being doctors they are behaving differently but not that it has helped their control in front of the cameras because that implies there ought to be that control and lack of grieve..
What I mean is that because they are highly educated they wont think in the same way normal folk do and think interms of highly level target orientated achivements because that is the most natural thing to do...
I wrote a while back that when I was not working in the months following my education in computers and I decided to find out more about myself as a human being to reconnect
to find a new direction to move on...I could not because conceptually I was on a different planet and everything I wrote was high level but useless to me ...I could write about Greek Philosophy and this and that rather than make basic decisions about my own choices and view on life..because I never really thought about thing and was not useto I just did alot all the time - working and so on...
I really empathise with the McCanns this way which is why I understand the blogging and the hill climbs and walks and so on because being who they are they just probably go mad otherwise...
They want to react to the situation they are in and to do the best but they simply cant ..because they can only react the way they are taught to or know...and this might be thier undoing...its why some of see the cmapaign as being high profile and grand but intangible to the actual reality and the search for their daughter....
