B: This was the only way Lenin could retreat from WWI because the Germans had taken massive chunks of Russian territory. This satiated the Germans and thereby ended Russia's involvement.

The Russians didn't double-cross the west. The Russians were one of the first countries into WWI and after abysmal failure, the only option was retreat. Incidentally, if they hadn't and Germany had invaded Russia and taken power, there's a good chance the Allies would have lost WWII considering the Soviet Union absorbed much of the Nazi's fury during the first few years of the war. Staying neutral at the beginning of WWII allowed them to forgo the destruction of war for a while considering they were rebuilding after Stalin's purges and WWI to some extent. This allowed them to strengthen and thereby keep the eastern front from collapsing in WWII, probably saving Britain and the West.

The Commies double-crossed the "Allies"--- the British and French-- Twice!!!!-- in WWI and WW2, by making "peace" with Germany , so the Germans could wage a "one-front" war against the Allies, in the course of which the Germans and the Allies would destroy each other.
