no
In the case of the united states the slave system was linked to skin colour. however most slaves lived in communities and had plenty of free time to socialise and create their own art and customs.
There was also plenty of communication between these communities- by way of selling slaves, marriages or contacts via freedmen
Bear in mind also that not all afro americans were slaves- there were many black americans who were free men and lived in the southern states
Many instances of rebellion, even more of escape. However there are also many instances where slaves, even when offered their freedom, chose to stay and defend their former owners. Many thousand afro americans- both free men and former slaves- volunteered to serve in the CSA Army

No. They did create unique cultures based on the African regions they came from, like languages (pidgins like creole and Gullah), dance (ring shout, calenda, juba, cakewalk, Charleston, tap), music (spiritual, Ragtime, jazz, blues, and swing), religions (Voodoo, Santeria), and food (soul food).

disagree. in order to own and dominate the slaves they had to completely COMPLETELY take away any identity they had and because of this, they created their own unique culture, especially in religion, by being slaves. you could say they reinvented themselves because of the simple fact that they were slaves. sick as slavery is.
