I like diversity. I do not believe that everybody is the same. equal, yes. the same, no.

Im against the melting pot mentality.
Why do people want everybody to think and act like everybody else?

I think some people believe that we must all be the same in order to end prejudice- that, in order to achieve equal respect, equal treatment, equal opportunity, equal consideration, etc.. we must be equal in every aspect of life. I'm sure that many such people are well-intentioned and don't realize that they're taking their egalitarian ideals too far. To expect us all to be equal in every way is to negate the very equalities that we strive for. For example, we cannot equally enjoy the right to the pursuit of happiness if we are all expected to behave in the same manner... Because expecting us to do as such is the equivalent of expecting us to abandon our individuality. True happiness cannot be attained if we are not free to be ourselves.

I think what people who support diversity are actually saying is that we are (or should be) all the same UNDER THE LAW.

The melting pot mentality is one of the core mythologies of United States history - much like "manifest destiny" and it serves an important role in indoctrination (for lack of a less loaded word).

The melting pot mentality, has as its unspoken premise that because all Americans (ostensibly) have the same legal rights, then success or failure is dependent on the individual.

Of course we know that little things like socio-economic value systems, cultural traditions, history, race, sex, class, etc. and other factors undermine such a mythology.

You seem to have confused the meaning of "diversity," which is recognizing the uniqueness and the talents of each individual.
People who embrace true diversity appreciate the different ways that people think and react. Some of the most boring groups I have been in were ones that were too homogeneous.

i've never been too huge on the melting pot idea either. we need that difference without it there can be no change and without change all of us would simply stagnate and wipe ourselves out

guess my ancient ancestors were as black as your avatar/picture, but through successive breeding, i look as white as most.

perhaps even i originated in NIGERIA, so when i shorten it to NIGER as in Hey my NIGERS don't get offended, my family may have been from NIGERIAS, although we look pretty white now.

i seen that on PBS that we all started in africa, so reverse racism is crap.
