You know, it's funny how easy it is to make an opponents platform sound like a deal with the devil. Libertarians support the RIGHT of people to voluntarily enter into social contracts with other people. If those people happen to be homosexual then WHO CARES? It's not our right to tell them they can't get married because their actions do not infringe on our rights in any way. Regarding business intervention it's true that the Libertarians want the government out of the marketplace. Individuals must be free to be aggressive competitors and form corporations, cooperatives and other types of companies based on voluntary association in the marketplace, and must enjoy no state-sponsored advantage. Those who best supply a good or service in the market will enjoy natural dominance only as long as they continue to benefit consumers. So far as our foreign policy goes, the Libertarians simply believe that a massive, expensive standing army stationed all over the globe does not increase our security. A small, professional force that defends our borders from attack is all that is necessary, and all that is ethical. They do not believe in isolationism, but rather American foreign policy should seek an America at peace with the world and the defense -- against attack from abroad -- of the lives, liberty, and property of the American people on American soil. Provision of such defense must respect the individual rights of people everywhere. The principle of non-intervention should guide relationships between governments. The United States government should return to the historic libertarian tradition of avoiding entangling alliances, abstaining totally from foreign quarrels and imperialist adventures, and recognizing the right to unrestricted trade, travel, and immigration. Nothing in there about isolating ourselves, merely not sticking our noses where they're not wanted. And finally, regarding pulling the troops out of Afghanistan and Iraq, what is so unrealistic about that? The majority of the country, and the majority of the congress, all seem to want it. People find it easy to bash Libertarians because liberty means responsibility, which most men dread.

The official Libertarian Creed: "Do not initiate force or fraud."
I think we should pull out of Iraq immediately. American soldiers should not be dying for somebody else's country.
In Afghanstan, we need to finish squashing the Taliban,
because they attacked America.
Immigration restrictions are an initiation of force. Being American is not a place of birth, it's a state of mind. I'm proud to be an American and I'm not afraid to compete with anyone.
Victimless crime laws (drugs, gambling, prostitution) are an initiation of force. They should be abolished.
Civil unions are just like any other contract. The Constitution says that a contract formed in any state must be recognized by all states. (But when 2 partners make a contract, that doesn't bind any 3rd party.)
Charity is a good thing. But robbing your neighbors (through taxes) to pay for your pet chairties is not charity - it's theft.
We have more freedom of speech than any other country. I'm glad that pornography is protected, but I'd be much happier if political speech was protected. Subsidized political campaigns and campaign finance laws are a major violation of freedom of speech.
The First Amendment protects both freedom of religion and freedom of speech. So churches are rightly exempt from taxation. Why aren't books also tax-free?

I say that Libertarians believe in the principle of self-ownership, and the rest of what Charlie wrote are mere positions of how one person thinks that principle should be applied.
For example, gay marriage: I don't have any problem with gay people doing whatever they want to do, but marriage is a creature of the government. That status conveys privileges, and if the people and/or government do not want to confer that status on same sex marriage, there is nothing in Libertarian Philosophy that says they must. The difference is in a social status, which no one has a right to, and tax breaks, for which the government may have a valid reason that doesn't apply to same-sex couples, and inheritability of Medicare and other benefits that we'd just as soon do away with anyway.
Laissez-faire, but the government could impose tariffs for raising revenue, not protectionism.
Many of us would like to see us out of Afghanistan and Iraq, but unless that's a part of a larger policy shift, most of those agree that it would be counterproductive to do so immediately. In other words, people that want us out of Iraq but into Darfur don't see eye-to-eye with Libertarians at all, and if it's about "non-intervention", what about Yugoslavia? Personally, I'm against us getting out of Iraq until it's clear that we would not be back. If we still have the same morons up there, they'd just change their minds in a year and do it again.

iT may be the way to go, unfortunately, peoples never embrace things that they don't really understand. And since the libertarian are lacking voices in US society, I guess they will remain marginal for a while! Peoples are stuck in their traditions, and it takes a huge social motivation to make them changed their minds.
The Hardcore voters are not easily impress, it is why, during election time, they can show which state will vote for who, even before the voted are counted...
Hope you will get heared!!
Good luck!

Libertarians are the only REAL conservative party left. You can sum up their entire platform with 2 words. SMALLER GOVERNMENT. And they mean it. No more government interfering in peoples lives. No welfare, no domestic spying, no gun control, no war on drugs, no religion in government, no hand outs to big business, no being the world police. Compared to them, the GOP is a bunch of liberal pot smoking hippies, except they hate gays. Otherwise the dems are the reps are all liberal!

I agree in part - read my previous post to your questions.
The biggest problem as I see it; there would be a kind of mass hysteria in this country.
A lot of what you have added, is also reflective of the Democratic Party, as well. There is not enough support, as yet, in our Congress to get the needed votes in order to override the presidents' veto(es). The Democrats really do want less government intervention, more programs, and to get our military the h3ll out of Iraq!
Please watch what goes on in Congress, on CSpan 1 and 2, in order to more fully understand the complexity of the situations we are faced with, today.

To make it simple...the Liberatarians look to Empower the indivdual with self reliance and weaken central government to protect the freedoms of the indivduals. People have the freedom to live a life they desired but have to accept responsibilities for their actions.

nothing is wrong with the Libertarian Party. In fact I wish the Libertarians, Greens, and all 3rd parties would get together and take the government back from the lobbies and big business and foreign interests and give it back to the People.
