I got two dobes. a red and black. the black dobes markings above the eye have grown to a point where he now has the rust color around the enitre eye instead of the two dots that dobes are known to have. when purchased they were about a month old and they where normal. my question is is this normal? and will they eventually go back to what they were suppose to be once he gets older???

Did you get them from a breeder who shows their dogs in AKC-endorsed shows? Are the pups from a line of titled champions? Do they have papers?

I'm guessing the answer is no, and that you got them from an irresponsible backyard breeder, since you said you got them when they were about a month old. Puppies are not weaned until they are 6-8 weeks old, and no responsible breeder would sell puppies younger than 6 weeks. Your pup is probably poorly-bred, or even a mixed breed. The marking will likely stay incorrect like they are, as puppies often develop marking as the grow but the markings don't revert to previous stages. Sorry, but I think you got ripped off. This is why you should only support responsible readers.

And why is this in reptiles?

I have never seen a purebred Dobe with tan markings as you describe.....the tan should not be "spreading".

I'm hoping you got this dog from a reputable breeder that you can go back to and find out what's going on...but then if they were only a month old when you got them, I doubt it. Puppies should not be sold before at least 8 weeks of age.

I have never seen this either but he may a pigment in an abnormal place and it might be best to contact the breeder and ask them is this normal or contact your veterinarian. I do can only think that maybe there was a genetic alteration while in the embryonic stage of development. Other than that I am not sure what the causes can be.
