Why are people in Gaza completely reliant on border crossings w/ Egy. Isr. when its a coastal area on the Med?

Does Isreal not allow any kind of ships to dock at the port in Gaza? Is there not even a port in Gaza? Every Map I look at puts Gaza on the Med. Sea. I think civilizations have been using that particular sea for trade for several years now. Is it broken?

1. Gaza dose not have a modern port. I think their were attempts to build one, but all work stopped after the second intifada.

2. Israel currently occupies the territorial waters of Gaza. That is why many say that while Israel dose not occupy the land of Gaza it is still an occupied territory because Israel controls the air and sea space.
