it might be that the ball is too close to the palm of your hand and not out on your fingertips as you release.
try it and see
Steve is right...if you have anywhere near decent form, the ball will rotate

It is does not need to spin if you can swish it all the time. But normally it should spin towards you, this can provide a "shooters roll" around the rim. You should shoot the ball with your finger tips (index, middle, ring finger) when you flick your wrist. Your palm should not be touching the ball. A good test for this is, you should be able to place your index and middle finger (two fingers) on your palm when holding the basketball in your shooting hand. Your release should be above your head, shooting towards the sky instead of at the rim. (this will provide the arc in your shot)

A jump shot typically has backspin imparted by the fingers moving forward toward the basket upon release. This helps to deaden the bounce if the shot hits the top of the front rim and also makes it more likely that a ball hitting inside the back rim will fall through the basket.

yes, the ball does have to spin even if its not a jumpshot. in order to spin the ball you CAN NOT place the ball on the palm of your hand!you have to place them on your finger tips and you must flick your wrist.

Its real simple, when you shoot, spead your fingers as far apart as you can and let the ball roll off your finger tips when you flick your wrist. And the most important thing of all, practice, practice, and more practice. Shooting is an art, you can only get better if you do it all the time. Oh, and no, the ball doesn't have to have backspin, but it does make it easier to control when your shooting. Trust me, keep practicing, you'll get it.

Jump shooting has everything to do with touch. You don't throw the ball or push the ball....you merely roll it like a yo-yo. Shoot the ball like you want it to come back to you. Make sure your elbow lines up with the basket, bend your elbow and let the ball roll off of your fingertips.
Hope this helps.

It relies upon on what position you play? were you getting ok monitors, if any?on isolation.. in case you do you're early paintings along with your again to the basket or face up; keep YOUR DRIBBLE and fade, step again, or crossover with a leaner in any route, in case you do %. up the dribble ball fakes no longer head fakes with recommendations to pass...the up and lower than is large close to the bucket cuz 9 out of 10 situations you're gonna get fouled even possibly with the continuation. greatest element is being a triple danger(the added the D is uncertain weither you're going to pass or shoot or stress is major) ; and keep engaged on that vertical.

To have a good jump shot you have to have proper form. if you have proper form you will get the rotation. Make sure you're elbow is underneath you're hand as you elevate for the shot. If you are not getting rotation you are probably shot putting the ball instead of shooting it.
