Sorry guys, but by past 20 years i meant their career started or was peaking no earlier than 1987. So Jimmy Page and such just don't count.

People Jimmy Page,Carlos Santana, And David Gilmour are some of my favorite but the question was they started after 1987 or the past 20 years. Those guys started in the 1960s. Whoever it is this guitarist is unknown. I have known people who are actually better than any of the ones I have ever known after 1987. Known guitarist probably Joe Satriani for the fact Deep Purple had him even though they never finished an album together. You have to be one of the best to be in Deep Purple. The truth is all the great guitarists were mostly in the 60s and 70s. No one will ever come close to Jimi Hendrix,Jeff Beck,Jimmy Page,Carlos Santana, or any of those guys.

And yeah, I'm going to go with Steve Vai here. Buckethead and Joe Satriani come in REALLY close after that, but Vai makes his guitar make the most unearthly and beautiful sounds that I've ever heard from the instrument.

Jimmy Page!!! People, did you ever see anybody playing guitar with a violin bow without beeing at a led zeppelin concert. Jimmy Page was born with a guitar in his hands (I hope it didnt hurt his mother too much).
