it's hard for the media NOT to hype somebody with Boobie as a nickname

yeah....he had some good games in the playoffs
-he was solid though in the regular season.....so hell yeah he's overhyped right now
but who knows....the playoffs MIGHT have been his 'coming out party' as some people call it

Not really. It takes will and determination to come through in the playoffs. There have been a number good players whose careers spiral up thanks to their performance in the playoffs (Sam Cassell, Zach Randolph, Josh Howard, Emanuel Ginobili, Deron William, and even Robert "Big Shot" Horry). Gibson came through for LeBron when everything mattered most, more consistently than the entire Cav's roster. He's quick, he can drive, and he's got skills. Mr. Boobies has the talent to become a star in this league but the real question should be, whether Cleveland give him the opportunity to thrive.

The guy has potential. He deserved the credit he got during the playoffs. He showed that he can shoot and can play pretty good defense.

We should all remember that he played minimal minutes during the regular season and seized an opportunity that was given to him. Before everyone rips on him because he didn't come up huge in the finals, they were playing against the best defensive team.

Give the kid a few more seasons and he will be great and will be a good second for LeBron.

I’m a Cleveland native, so I’ll try to be as unbiased as possible. Throughout the season, never cared or heard of Daniel Gibson and didn’t care. With Larry Hughes, Damon Jones, Crackhead Looking Donyell Marshall, and Aleksander Pavlovic – at the time, he was just another guy putting up another three.

But instead of dubbing Daniel Gibson as the next big thing, which they are, they should start talking about him on a more realistic scale. With Larry Hughes hurt, and not producing, they pulled him and then benched him in favor of Gibson. He had a chance to play and shine in that moment. And he became something Cleveland needed, he became reliable when the ball was passed to him. Drew ‘Magina’ Gooden and Zydrunas Ilgauskas are a little better than average just outside of the paint, but both of them tend to be streaky shooters. That’s not supposed to be their job. It’s their job to post up in the paint and to rebound, shooting from outside is just a luxury. And all of our guards can’t shoot. If my life depended on Eric Snow or Larry Hughes to knock down a clutch shoot – I’d be shopping for plot of dirt and looking for a casket. Maybe something made of birch wood.

But the truth is, Daniel Gibson shined in the moments he was given, especially against the Pistons, but more importantly Gibson drove into the lane against the Spurs. Even LeBron was hesitant. I can remember Game One and everyone talking before hand about LeBron dunking over Tim Duncan. And maybe Duncan wanted to show the world how rare that was, because when LeBron drove, he was blocked. Then the man became hesitant. I was obvious he was nervous and scared, but not Gibson. The man is smaller, lighter, and not as strong, but that didn’t deter him from driving. Even if he didn’t make the shot, people would have to challenge him, and even if they stopped him, so what, it would force the defense to collapse on someone else besides LeBron. And even though he didn’t score an incredible amount of points, he kept the Spurs honest. You can’t have give people guard one man. You’re going to at least have to keep one man on him. And again, someone else brought it up – he was a rookie. First year in the league playing against players he had idolized just a year before. There was no awe, no fear, no hesitation, he drove the ball and put up the shots he believed he had. He’s good, and a lot of people in Cleveland hope he can be great. But again, you have to remember it’s the Playoffs. There are so few teams playing that everything a person does seems ‘incredible,’ because if they didn’t make it out to be like that, what else would NBA commentators talk about for two days leading up to the next game. Stats, in my opinion, don’t define a player, effort does, and of all the players on the Cavs – Gibson showed the most hustle on the court.

One thing people need to understand is that the guy is a rookie. It's his first year in the league. His first year playing against the best of the best. You can't expect him to be a superstar in his first year. He is learning and he is developing as a player. He took great advantage of the opportunity he received.

Now, he has to either work hard and try to become a great player, which in my opinion is very cappable of doing so, or just fade into the list of players who don't stand out.

gibson is a rookie and ppl need to understand that. he's not too bad 4 a rookie, becuase he stepped up in the playoffs (game 6 of conf. finals). but then again, when it came to the big stage (finals), "boobie" provided almost nothing 4 lebron. i will say that gibson has potential.

He's just enjoying the moment he is playing with Lebron James and sees so much easy shots. I'd be doing the same, savor the moment.
