First of all allow me to say that the people who have said that they lay down and or drug the giraffe are wrong, VERY wrong. Because of the way a giraffe is built if they lay down or even sit for too long they bleed out and die (i have seen it happen, it is not pretty). Unless they were moving the giraffe an extremely short distance the animal would not be able to sit down let alone lay down. They also do not traq the animal due to the same reasons. The only reason they would be tied down to a flat bed is if they were already dead.
As far as what they really do there is a special truck that has been built. There are less than a dozen of them in the US. Anyway, it is a special truck that has an adjustable back end roof. They will walk the giraffe into the back of the truck and the animal has enough room to stand with its head all the way up. They will drive until they come to a bridge or something that the truck will not fit under. At that point they pull the truck off the road. There is a crank that will slowly lower the roof of the truck that will force the giraffe to lower its head just enough that the truck can fit through the tunnel/gate/whatever. They drive through then once on the other side they pull over and raise the roof back up. It is a very neat truck, we have used it several times here.

I've seen it done. They used a semi cab with a flatbed trailer attached, and they had the giraffes lying on the flatbed, strapped down with their legs curled under them. They transported 2 giraffes in the same trailer this way.

the same way they do other animals, enethetize it, which causes it to lie down, cutting on the space needed to transport it, then when it arrives, after a while it will wake up and go about life, this solves alot of hassling with the animal.
