I am deep into soul searching and I am really hungry to learn about life, especially people and relationships. What is a soulmate to you? Do you think that some people do not understand the concept and wrap it into more romantic kind of thinking, which distorts the "definition"?

The original roots of the concept go back to a belief in reincarnation. A soulmate is someone that you have encountered in many different life times and have loved many times. That’s why the first time you meet them in this lifetime you feel as if you have known them forever before you even knew their name. It was originally believed that soulmates are created when the creator takes a soul and splits it into two as it is caste into human form. Each half is supposed to learn the life lessons at their own pace. When the two halves sometimes cross paths during various lifetimes, they have a cosmic powerful bond because they really are of the same soul. They complete each other. They are often very much alike, and the intensity of the connection is too much for a mere human with emotions and issues to handle, so they painfully end up parting ways. For many a soulmate is just every person that they fall in "love" with. Many people do try to wrap it into a romantic thinking and change it to sexual thinking so it becomes someone they are attracted to. To me a soulmate would be someone I would fall in love with and stay with for my whole life.

I tend to think that there's more than one soulmate in the world for each person. I see a soulmate as someone who you connect with immediately, and have lots in common with, like a close friend but somehow different. Perhaps on some psychological level two people can just think in a very similar way, like identical twins sometimes do, because their brains are wired the same. That's why you have similar interests and opinions, and you often know what each other is thinking; you're minds run in parallel. Whatever the reason, a soulmate is worth hanging onto, whether they are a friend or a lover.

Hi StarGazer...

I really like your question. I'm going to give you a short answer but please feel free to email me if you would like to chat more. I am so into all this kind of stuff..."What's the meaning behind everything".

To answer your question, I think that the concept of soulmate is a fantasy like most of what humans perceive to be reality. The concept of soulmate is simple, two souls that are meant to be together. But that concept encompasses two other concepts. The concept of afterlife and the concept of predestination. I don't believe in either one, I think they're fantasies, to give our life a meaning deeper than what it has.

Of course, the romantic side of it is evident, you feel special, and comfortable in something that's "meant to be", but the reality is that things happen because of something else happening, not because it was meant to be. Just because we don't know what that something else is, doesn't mean it's some supernatural prophecy. I'd tell you more, but I'm at work.

The concept of "soulmate" is yet another human attempt to make one feel unique in the world. By declaring that only a unique person out there can be a match, that implies a high degree of individuality for the believer. It pleases the ego to feel like your different from everyone else, with only a "special someone" that has a complete commonality of purpose.

In actuality, there are thousands of matches out there on any level, be they romantic, friendship, or professional.

Soulmate, or soulmates, what is even better, it's a man or woman, no difference, whom from the very begining you feel as if you know him/her all your life, you catch each other's hints at once. You feel your soulmate as well as yourself... When you meet for the first time in your life, you may tell everything about you, about what you never talked even with your friends. Its's very great if you meet at least 1 soulmate in your life, 'cause you know then that you are not alone in this world.

Sure, there are soulmates. Each person has WAY more than one soulmate. Just because someone is your soulmate doesn't mean you should surrender huge pieces of your life to him/her. Sometimes soulmates are bad people, or good people that aren't worth your time.

A soulmate is someone you share incarnations with, whose destiny is somehow linked through previous experiences. You may be childhood friends, parent and child or not reconnect until adulthood or later in life. But, in each shared life your spiritual development is linked for good or ill. It is some type of frequency resonance that we cannot yet explain.

I think soulmates exist. It is someone that understands you and can tolerate all of your quirks. They love you for who you are and know that all of the mistakes you have made in your lifetime are what made you who you are today. They know what makes you sad, happy and mad. They want to give you everything in the world. They don't care how much money you make or where you came from.
