My youngest child was exclusively breast fed until she was 7 months old. She, too only had 1-2 BM's a week. For her, that was completely normal. Breast milk is very digestible and some babies utilize all the nutrients so efficiently that there is little solid waste per feeding. My daughter is now 10 years old and still only has a BM 2-3 times per week. Each person's digestive system is different. As long as your baby is having wet diapers and when she does have a BM it is not hard and pebble-like, 1-2 times/week is perfectly normal for her.

My friend had a baby the same way - the baby was also fussy and cried a lot. Turns out she has a problem with her colon. It is some kind of birth defect where the bowel is too close to the reproductive organs internally. . .anyway, the colon has a kink in it, so if it doesn't straighten out as she grows and learns to walk (she's 6 months) she'll have to have major surgery and possibly have her colon removed.

In the meantime, my friend has to give the baby rice cereal and suppositories daily to make sure she has a BM at least once per day.

Totally normal. My son did that at about the same age. Then he finally went to 1 time a day again. He has his own pattern. It is totally normal for breastfead babies to have irregular bowel movements. As long as it is not extremely hard when it come out, your baby is fine. It is also fine for them to strain during a BM.

Your baby should be fine, so long as the stools aren't pebble-like or hard. If they are, your baby might be constipated; in that case, use an infant suppository. They work almost immediately. Also, you might want to buy a container of prune baby food to loosen her stools (if he/she is constipated) or to make him/her go. Good luck! :-)

As long as the poops are not hard, there is no problem. Breastmilk is used more efficiently by the baby's body than formula, so there is less waste.

As long as they are not hard or pebble like then there IS no problem. Some babies just don't go everyday, just like adults sometimes don't. Breast milk is MUCH more easily digested and used properly by their bodies and they just use all of it.

Are you or the baby having only two bm per week? Either way , that is not enough. You really need to talk to your doctor. Are you still taking prenatal vitamins? I know the iron in those plugged me up! Take care!
