Or when it actually does break?

Mine broke while I was already at the hospital. Actually I was sleeping and I remember all of a sudden waking up and it felt like my entire belly shook. I actually had thought the baby had kicked the crap out of me b/c it was a sudden sharp jerk. Then my contractions came on very quick and the next thing I knew my water had broken. It all happened really fast and I'll never forget that!

I have had 4 babies. Only with one did my water break on its own, the other 3 it was broken for me at the hospital while I was in labor. It was my 3rd pregnancy and I had no fore-warning that my water was going to break. I was sound asleep until I woke up because I had to pee. As I rolled out of bed, I felt a bit of warm liquid leak down my leg and thought I had peed myself. As I walked to the bathroom, I could feel more warm liquid dripping down my leg. I was pretty sure it wasn't urine at that point so I changed my clothes, washed up, put on a pad, and went back to bed to time contractions. When my water was broken by the doctor, I was lying on the delivery table and each time it initially felt like a gush of warm urine which then dribbled out for a bit. When it was broken by the doctor, the water came out more gushing than when it broke on its own for me.

My water broke at 4am with my daughter. I was asleep, woke up and felt like I had to go to the bathroom. When I sat on the toilet I felt this gush of warm water come out. There was no mistaking it for urine (it was a gush), and it continued to leak out. I was so glad my water broke because I was afraid I would not know I was in labor other wise (first baby), and once your water breaks, you need to deliver within the next 24 hours, so my doctor told me to head out to the hospital. I am 32 weeks pregnant w/ number two right now, and I am hoping my water breaks with this one too.

Oh, be sure to carry towels in your car, and sleep with a waterproof mattress pad on your bed!

Good Luck.

unfortunately there are very few (if any) instances when a woman knows when her waters will break!! when it does happen though you'll certainly know, there is no pain whatsoever with it but it feels as though your wetting yourself and can't do a single thing to stop it!! can be an embarassing experience i should imagine if out shopping or in a restaurant but when the lil tike wants to come he'll come!!

my water broke, and it didn't feel like anything. it was a slow leak, and I just kept getting wet and thought I wasn't empyting my bladder enough. but when i got in the hospital the next day, the doc really broke by water, and he did it with that needle thing, and I didnt feel a thing, I felt a pop, and then it was wet. really you can't tell "if" and "when" your water will break. you just don't feel it coming on.

The second kind mine broke (the first was a trickle) it was like a POP feeling. Luckily, I was sitting in the hospital gown in the delivery room at the time!

I've given birth 3 times and never once knew it was about to happen. I had no warning. It just happened and when it did, it was a warm gush..like you totally lost bladder control, but with no kind of warning! Atleast when your about to pee your pants, you know it!!!

I was so uncomfortable and trying to move and twisted and POP! Just like a giant water balloon. That is exactly what it felt like.

It can either gush or feel like a small trickle. It will either feel like you peed your pants or that you REALLY peed your pants.
Mine gushed whenever I got up and walked after it broke. It was gross!

That is such a good question. I was wondering that myself but didn't even think to ask. I keep worrying that I'm not going to notice because I'll think it was just urine.
