Ginobili is better, but the Spurs like him coming off the bench because none of their other bench players can score that much. If he starts then they wouldn't have any scoring off the bench, and they'll have to rely on their starters.

Michael Finley is very good & solid as a starter. SInce he's a great shooter, they can set the tone by getting Duncan going early in the game & they can't double him.

When Ginobili comes off the bench it's a good change of pace & often sparks them offensively.

It doesn't mean Finley is better, they help the team in differentt ways. Manu is actually probably better at this point in their careers.

michael finley starts because the spurs need some spark from the bench. lets say parker and duncan were having an off game, who would provide the spark off the bench? finley? plus, ginobili gets more minutes than finley anyways. finley startin doesnt hurt the spurs, only helps them. hes a great free throw shooter and can hit the 3 sometimes. only reason he starts is because they want ginobili to provide that firepower off the bench.

Some ball players just get into a better rhythm and perform better when being brought off the bench as a spark. That's pretty much the way Greg Popovich has always used Ginobili, b/c thats how he gets the most out of him. Same situation going on in Chicago. Ben Gordon is one of the best young guards in the game, easily could start for almost any team in the NBA, he just performs better off the bench.

It's not necessarily that Michael is better than Manu. Manu Ginobili provides an amazing spark for the Spurs, which comes in handy when older guys like Finley start to fade a bit at the end of the first quarter. Manu has started for the Spurs, but they win more games when he acts as a Sixth Man.

Because Ginobili has been pretty effective coming off the bench. Greg Poppovich is also trying to limit his minutes because of the reckless style he plays ala D-Wade. Playing Manu more minutes can expose him to more injuries which the Spurs can not afford to have. Plus, Michael Finley is a playoff tested veterans so it's not bad to have him start out games and then bring your secret weapon off the bench to assassinate the other team. The Spurs have their strategy for everything they do. You don't shut down opposing team's offense in the playoffs and win 4 titles without knowing what you're doing.

he's like barbosa who for the suns always puts on an exciting show. manu is so much faster than finley, its just that finley is experienced and he is a pretty good 3-point shooter. manu is always there when you neeed him so they start him later. if they are down by points the spurs always use manu to come back....btw he's a great fourth quarter player....he's a sixth man

Ginobilli is a better performer coming off the bench

They can use ginobilli's offense when he comes off the bench and duncan and parker go to the bench so that they still keep the offensive rhythm going
