If you don't come up with my favorite, that is fine - just come up with a good arguement of why your choice was especially a good movie...
Have fun!

Remember folks - World War One.
Hitler & the like were World War Two. There were approximately 20 years between the two wars. Let's stick with World War I for this question and thanks!

"Sargent York" has got to be one of the best films the way the state thanks him for his service, I wish all the state's would thank the servicemen in a personal way. http://www.getgoodstuff.net

Do you mean a movie MADE during that time "era" or a movie ABOUT WWI?

Your question reads to me that you meant made during that time. I will say Charlie Chaplin's "The Kid".

Chaplin is oh so articulate considering this is a silent film. The dream sequence was far out! Hard to believe that Uncle Fester of Adam Family fame is "the Kid" - aka Jackie Coogan. Wonderful job by Coogan and Chaplin. Very much enjoyed. Much symbolism used not only through the various scenes but by the use of dark and light, shadows, etc. A very smart film.

I have to go along with others who said Sargent York is the best movie made ABOUT WWI

Paths Of Glory - great anti-war film, strong acting and directing
The Blue Max - I like it for the aerial scenes
Wings - same as above
All Quiet On the Western Front - a little dated but still one of the best anti-war movies ever
Hell's Angels - the best aerial combat scenes
The Fighting 69th - a bit hokey, but how can you not like James Cagney with Pat O'Brian?

I only have two that are set in that era, I believe: "A Little Princess" and "Fairy Tale." Both are about waiting for Daddy to get home from the war, and have very little to do with the war itself. I guess I like A Little Princess a little better, although they are both very good.

The Razor's Edge is a great movie about life during WW1. It has a wonderful dramatic performance by Bill Murray back when he was known strictly as a comedy guy.

Because of American education standards (see your answers so far) you might want to define the exact era. When I see Hitler in World War I, I said "What??"

I like old Keystone Cops and early Laurel & Hardy films.

I really like the Hitler documentaries, especially the ones in color. It is very interesting because they read parts of some of his letters. There is just so much that we don't know about Hitler, like why he did what he did, and its very interesting to get inside his head (somewhat). Hitler kept alot to himself, probably because he knew that sometimes it is safer (albeit less fun) to not let others into your life fully. Also, the documentaries study his relationship with his mistress, Ava. She reportedly tried to kill herself several times, but in most of her letters she talks about how much Hitler loved her. They are very interesting.
