for couples/friends to go? Is there a lot to do there?

I would have a place to stay so I'm talking about nightlife, shopping, food, beaches and people (locals and tourists).

I have been to Key West 7 times and have never been bored. First off, the bars are jumping all day, no need to wait for the sun to go down. But then again, they are open until 4 AM so be prepared to party. The sunset celebration at Mallory Square is a good time with lots of local artisans and street performers. If you like water sports then do a trip with Seabago Tours, para-sailing, snorkling, booze cruise, jet skis, whatever. Almost every bar has seating bordering the sidewalk and Duval Street for lots of people watching. You will have a great time. I can't wait to nreturn myself.

It would be a wonderful vacation. There is a lot to do from sightseeing, to lots water sports, to just relaxing at the beach. The only drawback is it's kind of expensive.
You will love a vacation to Key West, it's one of those "must visit" places in the USA.
