I'm looking for a hobby to start this summer, since I get bored a lot. I don't like to waste time watching tv, playing video games, etc. I read, hike, and ride my bike a lot, so I'm looking for something else. It's preferably something that I could do indoors on my free time. I also am saving my money for rent and tuition, so it would preferably be cheap. Thanks for your help!

Try learning a new language, or keep going with one you have already learned. Check out your local community colleges--they probably offer summer classes. Or, take other classes that interest you. You said you like to read, so start a book club and/or book exchange in your neighborhood/community. Post flyers at the library and local bookstores. Try swaping books online: check out http://www.paperbackswap.com and http://www.bookmooch.com. Geneaology would be another good hobby, very fun and interesting, and it doesn't have to cost a lot. Ancestry.com offers free 3 day trial memberships, and I found A LOT about my family that I couldn't find on other sites. You could also try your hand at a craft or too. Make hemp jewelry, take up knitting (it's easier than it looks, and it's not just for girls/women). Refinish some cool furniture pieces for your room. Uh, take up Sudoku. Or those words puzzles where you have to figure out (for example) who is driving which car and what color car (I know there's a name for them--check your local grocery/convenience store, or I could send you some because I have a TON of them that I will probably never get through. Email me if you like). Keep active, and keep your brain active--both will help you in the long run (I'm a psychology major, trust me on this one :P). Hope that helps. Stay safe, and have fun, whatever you decide to do.

I must say this is a very well phrased and thorough question !!

CHEAP, INDOORS...

Drawing, Reading, Knitting, Volunteer work, Beer....

INDOORS and not as cheap...

Models, Model Railroading...

LOOK around the web and here in this forum... You might read about something that would strike your fancy... ALSO, check around your local area: there may be a model railroad club you could visit and help out !!

Good Luck and Enjoy your Summer

Try taking an art and pottery class. You'll really get into it. All you need is to find your creative spot. Anyway, anybody of any age would love to hang up some pictures of your's on their wall; and a terra-cotta bowl would make a great gift. Especially if a friend or relative made it.

I know it's kind of "girly" but knitting is really fun. There are actually a lot of guys these days who knit - yarn can be cheap, and it's a mindless, fun thing to do.

What about tracing your family tree?

You can do a lot of genealogy research on the internet and it's pretty interesting to see how far back you can trace your ancestors.
