If I am going to use a SATA connected DVD drive, Do I connect it to the SATA 3.0gb/s slot on my motherboard? And It will read a windows xp sp1 cd right?. Because I heard that sata can't read vista cds because the drivers aren't on the vista cd yet.

Yes.

I have one and it works like a champ in XP.

Plug it into the SATA connector on your mobo and stick the Vista disk in.

There is no such thing as a "Vista CD" (unless you mean the disks that Vista come on). They are the same as regular disks.

You will have no problem using the drive.
