As someone has already said - if they have over-paid you in error, then yes they can retrieve the money.
If they have awarded you a pay-rise - is there written evidence of this? If there is, then the only way they can change this amendment to your terms & conditions is to give you the required notice to do so. If they do this then you have the option of not accepting the change and taking the employer to an employment tribunal.
If there is no written evidence of this payrise it will be very difficult to challenge its removal.

Give you WHAT, then take it back? Once you've been paid, they can't take back what they've already paid you. But they could give you a raise or promotion and then take it back.

With your additional info that you're talking about a payraise - yes they can unless you have a contract that they'll pay you at the new rate for a certain period of time.

It's not fair, but they can make you take a pay cut. You can't do anything about it. I will say they should have discussed it with you first. If they didn't that is just unethical. Make sure you keep a journel of everything they do, Keep it up to date and add anything that makes you feel cheated, uncomfortable or whatever.

Depends on your employer and your contract of employment

Give and take what? If you mean they paid you accidentally too much then yes. If they paid you a bonus then no. If they promoted you permanently then changed it no. If it was temporary yes.
