Sometimes, you see Answerers who aren't content to reply in monosyllables - nope, they write essays. I love them. The organization, the structure - they're so beautiful, I could cry. Where else can I find this, in undiluted form, on the World Wide Web? (or in a bookstore, preferably the former, due to my location in a non-English-speaking country)

Hint: I'd like contemporary sources. I've hoarded (and am reading) all the classic books sites one could need in a lifetime. Right now, I'd like to sit back and rest m y brain a little. Think TIME magazine, but not so current-news-y. Blogs must be genuinely good, as in publisher-worthy. I've got high standards. : b

For novels try Slaughter House Five by Kurt Vonnegut Jr. or for something lighter try Time Qauake by the same author.

... if you can find them online.

Otherwise for a good list of blogs try here:

Shakespeare might not be very "contemporary," but they're really good works of literature.Especially "Romeo and Juliet" and "Othello." Articles in literary magazines and newspapers are good too. There are probably many essays on the Internat. Try a Google Search or a Yahoo search for the essays that you are interested in. Wikipedia is probably full of essays. Even a regular encyclopedia is entertaining to read. There will probably be many results. I would suggest trying to get your hands on a collection of Shakespeare's plays. TIME magazine also sounds like a good idea. Researching your favorite subjects is nice too. Or, try writing your own poems, articles, or various works of literature. I would suggest "Harry Potter" depending on what you like to read. They are somewhat easy stories to read, and they will give your brain a break. Magazines of fictional stories are really good. I don't know a title of one, but I'm sure there are some in a local bookstore, or you could read one probably on the web. Hope I have helped! Oh, and happy reading!
P.S. - Poetry and plays are excellent reads too.

I must admit that on certain subject i tend to show off by writing a novel on yahoo answers. Try doing various research on subjects that will (if you are lucky) not be of any use to you in the future such as medical journals or british biographies. British people always seem to have the upmost proper speach and are extremely well renouned for it. But comprehend what you are wanting so may i suggest looking for authors' interviews that are written on sites or even cnn. com. they usually have something that is not, as you say, so news-y. You know you could always simply read a good book.If you want something old then i suggest either shakespear or pride and prejudice or gone with the wind. As for a newer type of book i suggest the inhieritance trilogy by Christopher Paolini (also known as eragon and eldest, the third book releasing next summer), harry potter, the old kingdom trilogy by Garth Nix, or warriors series by Erin Hunter.

Google Scholar has a great selection of essays, mostly in the research/professional world from the ones I've read.

News blogs are also a great source for essays. The easiest way to find them is to do a search by the author (if you have a favorite author).

If you check out Barnes and Noble's website, you can order collections of essays sent to your country.

Good luck.

A couple of links below to online essayists. Edge is particularly mind-stretching, whilst Butterflies and Wheels claims to "fight fashionable nonsense" Reader's Digest et al belong to the 19th century- these are for the 21st.
