You can get a charging rig and cans of coolant from an auto parts store, however you should check it (or have it checked) for leaks before you call it good. Secondly you should consider having it taken to a shop to be recharged. Their Coolant machine will vaccum out moisture from your system. Moisture can freeze in your lines and your a/c will not be cold until it defrosts.

yes you can charge with r134 or r12 in your car first see in your sticker under the hood wich gas your car use after you check the gas you see two hoses with valve same as tire valve one is small hose other litle biggerthe small is for high pressure carefull this line is hot ok the bigger is cold when the ac is working good so go any kragen or pep boys buy a 16 oz can of your gas ask for the can with the specific hose and vale ok fellil it an thats all be sure they sell you the r12 because in calif state sell only with licence ok

sure you can. Go to an auto parts store and buy a refill kit. It will include a hose, valve, gauge, and the fitting to connect the hose. Just be sure to use the right freon. R134a if the car is a newer model or it its an old one then r12. good luck.

Theoretically, you should NEVER have to recharge your AC. You have a leak and in the long run you are better off to have a professional check it out and repair the leak.

yes, but some vehicles are easy to overcharge and that will cause less cooling too.
