why do they idolize Reagan, who gave amnesty to 9 million illegals in 1986?

See, Republicans are in a very dicey situation with this Immigration issue, especially with a National Election coming up. They aren't really against Amnesty, but they are so desperate to keep the White House, they will try anything, even if it means importing voters.

They know they will NEVER get away with disenfranchising a bunch of minority voters THIS time around, so they need another group to pander to, to overcome those votes they can't just ignore, as they did in Florida in 2000.

Asians as a whole are not aboutto elect another George Bush, so that group is unavailable to them. Black people typically vote overwhelmingly Democrat (at least when their votes are COUTNED that is), so this only leaves Mexicans. The legal ones who vote, typically vote Dem as well, so whats a Republican to do?

Buy votes with Amnesty of course. This serves two purposes.
1. It make's a huge bloc of potential voters beholdne to the Republican Party;
2. It ensures a good supply of cheap labor for Republicans who need nannies and lawn maintenance guys.

Every republican I have talked to agrees that Reagan's amnesty program was a disaster. All the more reason to make sure it does not happen again.
