I am kind of surprised of how poor they have been playing. I didn't expect them to be in the playoffs, but I didn't expect them to be this bad

Damn it, do you have to remind me??
Yes, I knew this season would be a struggle for us as soon as we lost out in bidding for names like Lilly and Meche, and instead had to settle for Tomo Ohka and John Thomson. I also thought the Frank Thomas signing came a couple of years late - he had a big 2006, but age factors can be severe when players reach their late 30s.
We have a nice 1-2 in the rotation with Halladay and Burnett, but it's a huge dropoff after that. And while we have some good offensive players, there are still injury risks (Glaus) and offensive holes (Clayton, whoever starts at catcher) that seems to hurt the team on a regular basis.
I figured .500 was a reasonable expectation, and they might still do that. But, it seems like every time they get within a game or two of getting even, they hit a losing skid.

Dissapointing season last year? They finished with 86 wins and in 2nd place. But yes I am very surprised. I thought they would be in contention.
