Microsoft Corporation's Bill Gates (not the other "Bunker-Buster Bill Gates"), so I could really help the 3rd -World directly as well as our Americans who are plumetting into the maelstrom too. I would do it without so many middlemen who spend too large a portion on big offices and jet planes and give too little a percentage of every charitable dollar directly to the people. It involves trusting people a bit more who cry out to us without making them fill out forms in triplicate and belittling them for being needy. So many people suffer in silence when they could readily be helped if they would just reach out and we would quickly and efficiently reach back! I would travel around and find out who was living in a tar-paper shack and give them an economic lift to get vocational and or literacy training TODAY and things like wells drilled TODAY and things like community-based childcare TODAY so that many single moms could be freed-up to work and start climbing the economic ladder. I would make "deputies" out of poor people who were highly literate but just disadvantaged because the poor know the answers for the poor best, not the rich because they are too far detached from poverty! If I were Bill Gates I would have set up camp in the midst of the Katrina disaster area and brought much needed goods and services there by asking the victims themselves what they needed most to carry-on as well as analyze the lack evident in F.E.M.A. 's approach to be better prepared for the next disaster, whether man-made or natural because BOTH will intensify in our day and age. Let Bill Gates give me even a paltry $300 Million dollars to start a philanthropy and see how much I can leverage it for the good and I will make a difference in a very big way! I promise!
