I too tried the diet route, read every label, watched everything I ate to no avail. My cholesterol was 365 and only dropped to 325. The doctor told me some people have inherited the inability for the body to utilize cholesterol, therefore it builds up. So you too, apparently are one of those people. I have been on Lipitor 80 mg. daily for about 4 years with no problems. My last cholesterol test was 160 with HDL and LDL within normal range. So that medication worked for me. I suppose different drugs have different effects on people and you may have to take that into account should the time come. If one type cause you problems, there are numerous others the doctor can try you on.
