Christina- You should have choosen a profession / degree that was in demand. Choosing poorly doesn't make you deservant of entitlements.
Thats is one problem, People who make poor decisions want the government to pay them back what the feel is owed to them. Its not Bush's fault your university raised its tuition rate, nor is it his fault that congress didn't allocate the money for education you feel it should have gotten. Grow up and take responsibility for "your" short commings and decisions. Quit expecting other people to pay for them!
.27 cents of every dollar the government allocates for welfare is absorbed by the beuracracy machine. The inefeciency of government to keep on producing entitlements is self defeating. Entitlements never go away, and become a drain on the economy and tax payer.
A national healthcare plan would not only break America and burden tax payers, but America would loose the quailty of healthcare it enjoys now. We introduce and pioneer more medical drugs, procedures and techniques than any other country in the world. Governments involvement will only be a detrument to this industry. Free healthcare will be the most expensive healthcare you ever had! Not to mention we will loose place at the top for the world's best medical care, and treatment. At the moment, people come from all over the world to have treatment here. Doctors without borders have special equiped planes (surgery centers inside, pharmacy, ect.) to give patients treatments and teach local doctors new methods of treatments. People from Canada and Europe come here, because even though they have national healthcare, they are usually placed on a waiting list for treatment, government bueracrats determine what is an emergency and what can be put off for a while. But if you are in pain, don't you want it stopped right away? Not six months down the road.

do no longer blame the folk. Blame the government. the administrative. makes it very comfortable to stay dwelling house & have babies. you additionally could make greater funds doing that than you additionally could make working daily. and you do no longer could desire to pay day care or upward push up early. you will continually have people who will abuse or take income of a hand out. yet whilst the hand out isn't there, they could't have it. Do you know finished time day care is greater effective than maximum women make?? i've got not got a clue what you think of Mrs. Clinton is going to do which will destroy national healthcare. WHAT approximately how this is now & the healthcare ruins us? One holiday to the well-being middle without coverage can placed somebody in financial disaster. do you know ways lots pharmaceuticals cost? attempt & get help. it is not there. specific, the massive agencies say they supply you with a chit. They do supply you with a chit. A drug that fees $450 according to month could be knocked all the way down to $315. that doesn't help somebody on a hard and fast earnings very lots....... i think of you had greater appropriate carry out a little greater study formerly you communicate approximately entitlement or the different sorts of help.

40% of the population collects entitlements, Slapnut. It's not only welfare.
Welfare reform changed the way the Federal government distributed funds to the states. States such as New York simply tax their citizens in order to fill in the gaps. It's now up to individual states. You might want to do some research before spouting off on Republicans. Don't want to look like another jackass lib.

while i can not comment on who will be the next president, the ss entitlement was originally put into practice to subsidize war widows and then later expanded by government legislators seeking favor with the electorate.People feel these entitlements are due because they have been told by the government that they are due it, and the government takes money out of their checks for those reasons. as for those not working and able I can only surmise that once the free ride is offed people will take the path of lest resistance and go with the flow.

that is the whole principle for the Dems is to get handouts and have the people who are contributing to society pay for it. I don't mean rich and poor I mean people who are working, or even people trying to work at least, vs. people not working and milking the system.
are paying more than their share in taxes even with breaks, another example of Dems wanting everything for free. If it weren't for their tax money there wouldn't be much to go into welfare, so I don't think we should punish people for a making an effort and doing well.
Adam your a genious (sarcasm) you do know that wikipedia can be edited by anyone and that half of the information on there isn't reliable. come back with accurate info. In fact they had a newscast about all these people failing their papers because they used wikipedia as references.

The majority of Americans have decided that they would rather provide food stamps to the poor than know that people are dying of starvation.
Not all parts of the country have jobs for everyone. Not all children have parents in good health.
Why do you see pestilent slums, beggar children, and migrating destitute people as an improvement that we should all wish?

Because it's wayyy easier to say "that's not fair" than it is to change your own circumstances.
Update:
After reading the ill informed answers I have to say that we absolutely accept the need for help premise for those who are elderly and poor, truly disabled, and victims of disaster, including the layoff from companies and natural disasters etc...we do not accept that you want to stay where there are no jobs and we should give you money for it, we do not accept that you cannot change industries and find work, and anyone who believes that some people pop out baby after baby knowing it will increase the amount and length of time they can receive benefits do not exist are seriously delusional.

You know who deserves something rather than the people too lazy to work that you speak of???
Struggling college kids who are working to pay their own way when meanwhile Bush is reducing federal funding and their tuition is being jacked-up to monumental proportions and then when they graduate, they have no jobs because they're all being moved overseas and now they are struggling working 2 jobs to pay off their debt. I DESERVE SOMETHING!!! I'M SICKOF WORKING 70 HOURS PER WEEK FOR NOTHING!!!
Sorry, for the rant. Working 7 days a week is starting to get to me. I've worked all my life and still have nothing. If the government gave me a handout, I'd gladly accept it.

In reference to food stamps: Back in the 70's my father's union striked for months, my parents had to get food stamps in order to eat. I think a program like this is definitely needed. It SHOULD be a temporary solution, but if one is disabled (mentally or physically) and unable to work it is a must.
In reference to healthcare: Do you like the control the insurance companies have of your life? I'd prefer a national system that either gives tax breaks or subsidizes the cost of healthcare.

Are there many people on public assistance who are complaining that they don't get to live like a king? Are you aware that most people on public assistance get off it, upon finding a new job? Are you aware of how many families and children are receiving public assistance? Are you aware that the purpose of public assistance it to help people when they need it, not to support them as long as they want it?
On the other side, are you aware of how much is spent on the military? How much is given to corporations in tax breaks and other payouts? How much is spent on pork projects to help members of congress get reelected?
Why is it that people feel safe to stereotype those who get help from the government only when circumstances force them into it as lazy and greedy?
