Every person is born with the potential for greatness, not only in the self but for the betterment of the world. It is not fate,or a fluke its a choice. We choose the life we lead.We all have the power to make lasting changes on this earth,no matter how insignificant they may seem at the time.It only takes one person to change the world. And it starts with you. ~The adviser

This is the hope and fantasy.

Really we are just here to procreate and keep the species going. The "world" couldn't care less about our existence either way, so any human being who thinks they must make a contribution that lasts for eons is living a self-delusional fantasy.

There are very few humans who have made the world a better place FOR OTHER HUMANS. But not a single human being has ever made the world a better place for everyone and everything, because once you get to that level of thinking, "better" is an entirely subjective term.

Trees would think the world is a much better place if we have 3 times as much CO2 in the atmosphere.

Insects would think the world is a much better place if the temperature was about 15-20 degrees hotter. (So would Antarctic's Emporer Penguins!)

Certain microbacterial organisms would prefer the atmosphere to be filled with sulfer dioxide, poisonous to us.

Ocean life would prefer our coastal cities be flooded under 50 feet of water so that the buildings could become huge coral reefs. (If the oceans rise like Al Gore promises, coastal ocean life will utterly THRIVE!)

So really, we are all here by a fluke. You'll get about 70-100 years to enjoy it. Maybe spawn some future generations. Then you'll die. And in as little as 50 years, no one will even know you existed, nor care.

And if you're lucky enough to invent something cool or come up with some knowledge that previous generations were not aware of, you'll gain a little bit of appreciation by the future generations. But in another 100-200 years, even that will be shrugged off and forgotten. Obsolete.

And in another 50,000,000 years, the sun will grow to such a large size that it will devour the entire earth altogether. So even the particulate matter that was evidence of our existence will be gone forever.

And 50,000,001 years from now, some other species on another planet will look up in the sky and think they are uniquely and specially qualified to make their world a better place.

Until they finally realize how short life is.
And they just go about living it.

I am just a pawn, just another cog in the wheel. I try to make things better for my sons than what I had it. That's all I can do. So far, they are decades ahead of what I had in my life at their age.
I think that if every parent did the same, the world would be a better place.
I do recycle, but more important, what they never suggest in these "make the world green" websites and articles, I conserve, using as little water, etc., as possible. I don't buy stuff just to throw to the landfill. (Of course, being poor helps there!)
Does that make the world a better place?

Each of us makes this world better by contributing our gifts and passions to the world-at-large. We can only do this by returning to our authentic nature and our ideas of the "ideal" divine experience we long for. That full aliveness is how the world is made better for our having lived.
