Not really. America is a country where the military-industrial complex feeds off a poorly informed citizenry. Even in the year of 9/11, the average American was about 20 times more likely to die from a preventable medical mistake than from a terrorist attack. The powers that be, however, managed to convince the public that "fighting terrorism" (whatever that means) is more important than improving healthcare...

As to the latest empire, I think you should take a hard look at China...

Yes. There are very few areas in the world that are not dominated or highly influenced by the US (China, North Korea, Iran).

In theory all countries are independent, but the practice is that the US has the last word in the UN, NATO, and such an economical power that it governs the actions of most countries, be it by proxy or with delegating.

Any country that goes against the will of the US (for example a country that would like to develop WMD too) can expect to get on the "evil" list, or countries that do not act as puppets of Washington can expect other sanctions.

92% of the Spanish people were against the invasion of Iraq. For some reason the government ignored that. Over 70% of the Belgians did not want their government to support the US so the politicians spoke some harsh words - but the harbour was used for American weapon transport.

I think that all countries that are not US have clearly experienced over the past decades that independence or democracy are relative.

No.

The USA is not an empire nor is it an imperialistic nation.

As vice president Dick Cheney stated, if America were imperialistic, we'd certainly own a lot more of the Earth's geography than we do.

The USA has nuclear, biological, and chemical warfare weapons we have not used in the 21st century. We could devastate nations, depopulate half the planet, control the entire world, but we are not doing it are we! So please get real before suggesting the USA is an empire.

Our chemical warfare weaponry alone could wipe out most of mankind. Our germ warfare capability would make us victorious in any major war of global conquest. The USA could clean out the entire Chinese population with a single biological & chemical weapons attack. But gee whiz for some strange reason we're not doing it.

Most empires these days are corporate. So I would say Nike or Microsoft!
