am around 5 foot 11. How long will it take me to dunk if for now I can touch the bottom of the backboard? Like how many more inches do I need to add to my vertical? Will doing squats, lunges, and wall sits help me dunk? Most detailed answer gets best answer

I'm only six foot and I can dunk. Any number of leg exercises will work out your muscles, but increasing verticle can happen very quickly if you're in good shape. I'm a little concearned that you are touching the bottom of the backboard. That means you need to add about 13-15 inches of verticle to dunk consistantly (depending on how big your hands are). First, you gotta be in great shape. If you're short, you can't be heavy. Second. Squats are overrated for jumping ability. They do improve leg strength, but they add mass, and weight, to your lower body. This means, you have more weight to get off the ground. I would do about 5 sets of 1 minute speed jump rope every day. Work on your abs. At least 100 crunches per day. Do lunges with dumbells in your hands. Then take the dumbells to the stairs and do calf raisers up the stairs with the weights in your hands. Look up what a dot drill is if you don't already know and do it every day. Do power skips with ankle weights, and dumbells in your hands. Last drill. Do this everyday as well: Get a medicine ball. hold it straight in front of your chest. squat down and touch the ball to the floor while keeping the arch in your back, and then jump up while reaching the ball above your head. Do this for 1 minute at a time for about 5 reps per day. You should see atleast two inches improvement in your verticle within two weeks. Good luck man.

Well first you are only 15 so I would say you can still grow 3-6 inches before you stop at 21. So drink lots of milk, a glass a day to keep your bones strong and encourage growth in your body.

Second in relation to your vertical. Those are great exercises to try but remember don't let your knees go past your toes or you will end up hurting yourself. Another good exercise is calf raises. In fact to most who need help with vertical I recommend them to use Air Alert. Here is a link to a free Air Alert program: http://www.scribd.com/doc/10094/AIR-ALERT III It is a hard and long program to do but after you rest up you should see a good gain on your vertical ranging from 5 inches - 10 inches. (not guaranteed but I gained about 6" when I did the original air alert at 15). There are other plyometric exercises as well (look it up). But to give an example, stand on a box 1-2 feet high and drop down and immediately jump back up again as high as you can.

TIP: NO MATTER WHAT! Don't use ankle weights or jumpsoles, they are a waste of money and can damage your ankles more than benefit your vertical! No point in paying for that, when you can create your own better exercises.

Also, if you are the tallest on your team, work on your ball handling, just in case you don't grow and this way you can still play guard through school and if you decide to continue on with the game.

quats and other basic leg excersises will help, but unless ur still in high school you have a small chance of being able to dunk

the only thing proven to give a large increase to your vertical leap is plyometrics(fun, easy, quick workout look it up on google) and jumpsoles which cost about 60 dollars but if you do the workout you will see HUGE increase in your vertical
