It should be good for Vista.

Well, that processor is not specifically 64 bit. All Athlon XP's are 32 bit, and you'll need 2GB for it to run smoothly. However consider to completely new computer with a a core 2 or amd dual core because your Athlon processor will not run very well... But if u really wanted to just use the system u have purchase windows vistas basic (Just like windows xp but with a few extras) and 1gig of ram but I highly advise against this because of the waste of money and resources.

Yeah, a dual-core is almost necessary to run Vista. If you can configure it right, you can run most system utilities on one core, and all the peripheral crap on the other. Plus you need a good video card (Vista will whine about it if you don't) like a Radeon or something high-end.

Your processor technically will run Vista (I have an Athlon XP 1800+ overclocked and it will run it) but the better you can get your system the better Vista will run. You get a "Vista Experience Score" when you run it and it rates how your system handles the OS... and if your score gets too low, Vista complains.

Best to upgrade your ram.

I am not sure what is the detail of ur processor. But see amd athlon x2 3000+ is pretty good processor. I think urs must be single core processor. Now what about the L2 cache.. it should be minimum 1 or 2 mb for better performanct. 512kb will also do. Now u also need good ram. Good ram means for vista if u have minimum 1gb it is good and also the speed of the ram should be high. I use 2gb ram with speed of 800mhz so my system performs pretty good with it. any question u can mail me back...

Your processor is more than capable of running most Windows Vista Programs. Windows Vista is a very memory instensive operating system, every expert will tell you that even though they say that the minimum system memory for Vista is 512mgs, it won't run smoothly or efficiently without a minimum of 1gig, and if at all possible, you should run 2gigs provided your motherboard will support that much system memory.

It's not a bad processor. I still have one that operates my file server. They were fairly overclockable too for the price. It would run Vista just fine unless you were going to do any gaming. You'll experience a lot of lag if you plan on running intense software in conjunction with Vista.
And Vista doesn't run well on anything less than a gigabyte of memory, no matter what you're told.

I have the same processor. It is 2.17Ghz I believe. That is fine for running Vista, although I would recommend getting a dual-core processor anyway since Vista is such a hog. You should have at LEAST 1GB of RAM also...2GB is recommended.

I would first recommend not upgrading to Vista for many reasons, if you do upgrade then you will want to upgrade your CPU, motherboard, Video Card and RAM.

Stick with XP or 2000 for a while longer. Vista really only takes things away......
