A "twist" in the plot
means the audience is led to believe the story will go one direction, but it suddenly turns and has a surprise element that catches the audience off guard.

It is not necessarily at the end, but a lot of suspenseful movies will do this for effect.

Some movies add a twist at the beginning, to add tension to the conflict that is carried throughout the rest of the movie. Other movies will add twists along the way, so that the story becomes more interesting.

Better known as a plot twist. It means something unexpected to the viewer. An event that no one saw coming and was far from what everyone thought would happen.

meaning that the end of the movie isn't what you thought it was....it pretty much messes with your mind by shifting what the viewers think.
