Me and my bestfriend are fifteen and on a work permit and were hired by an insurance company, we were supposed to be paid minimum wage but when we got our checks they came out to be forty-six dollars and seventy five cents and we worked more than thirteen hours over the two week period and she didn't even give us minimum wage she gave us five fifty and we told her that this isn't right so she took the checks back and redid them by six fifty(minimum wage) and they came out to eighty something and we're like if you only added a dollar it shouldn't have doubled so were we wrong or did she think we were stupid?

There are several elements here that kind of blur together. Gossip in the workplace is bad. It's bad business, bad for morale, just bad. So managers shouldn't encourage it much less participate in it. So they were wrong on that point. They're doubly wrong encouraging gossip out of an employment issue. The next thing is what the guy said to you. I suppose I should ask if you are gay and he was issuing a slur, or was he just making jealous commentary on your sharp designer wardrobe? ;) If he was just being a horse's patoot, I can see the quizzical, "Do you know what Tim just called me?" that might become a source of chatter. On the other hand, if he was being personal, you should have made things a little more formal where the need for employee confidentiality would be a little more obvious to the denser managers. No, you *shouldn't* have to say "don't say anything" to any manager, it's just a matter of course. It was unprofessional. Not addressing this with the perp and taking appropriate action is unprofessional. I would say maybe they did and it's confidential, but that seems outside the scope of their abilities. I don't know what you're looking for other than affirmation, but you're right. It was handled badly. "Tim" should be suspended or terminated.

Dependant upon when the pay period begins and ends is the problem here. Most people with bi weekly pay start in the middle week of this so yes forty some dollars would of been right, one weeks work, then bi weekly would amount to 80 some, your paycheck is always for the previous week, or two weeks work

Isn't minimum wage 6.50... Thus meaning that if she added a dollar from 5.50, that would equal 6.50?

She did it wrong the first time.. 13 hours by 5.50 is 71--.

If you worked 13 hours in one week times $6.50 it comes out to $84.50 but if you worked 13 hours each week then that would be $169.00 so she was right when she gave you the new amount

i agree with Amos, find a new job. it looks like in the 1st check she may have taken taxes out but not on the 2nd check. If you don't pay taxes you're gong to be screwed come tax time depending on how much you make...
