I bought a 3 wheeler that was built for racing . Its a older model. A kawasaki KLC 200. Anyways i bought it as is. It had been sitting in there shed for a couple year but ran when they parked it they said. Anyways I orignally thought it had carb issues cause when i would put the gas into the motor and hold my hand over where the carb hooked up it wold start for a split second and die out. Which made since cause there was no carb hooked up. Anyways i tried it the other day and it will only start when it wants to when you place the gas into the motor. Someone told me it was out of time. Is there a way to check this? I dont know if this has anything to do with it but when you go to start it and it hits you have to turn the key off and back on for it to turn over the motor again. I want to fix it but dont want to pay a 100.00 a hour. Anyone have any ideas to check the timeing or have a idea whats wrong with it?

We replaced the spark plug and cleaned the carb. We bought the 30.00 can you soak it in for 30-40 mins and cleaned it that way. We blew on the jets and air gets through umm. So if nothing else my father said he will take the motor out and rebuild it. But im hoping i can fix it. It wasnt getting spark untell we replaced the plug and it didnt try and hit untell we asjusted the carb. Before when you choked it gas would poor out of the back of the carb and it doesnt do that no more.

And it gets good compresion without the carb on. You put the carb on and hold your hand in back of the carb and i aint getting no compresion out of the carb. I dont know if you should or shouldnt. I was trying it the other day trying to get it to hit putting gas in the carb and i noticed the guy who cleaned the carb (the second time it was cleaned) lost a screw out of it, so we just replaced it and also filed out another one so we replaced that. Im gonna try it again today now that we fixed that problem. But a few people think its out of time cause if you put gas into the carb once in a great while it will spit fire out of back of the carb. I dont know i didnt pay a whole lot but i would like to get it running. I dont know anything about 4 or 3 wheelers.

If the previous owner said it was running when he put it away and you trust him, the timing wouldn't change from just sitting around.
I wouldn't bother checking the timing, until you get it running.
The most likely problem would be a dirty carburetor and clogged jets.
When a bike/trike/quad has been sitting for a long period of time, the gas in the carb evaporates and leaves behind a gummy lacquer.
Remove the float bowl of the carb.
Any discoloration or junk and the carb should be soaked clean.
Remove the pilot jet and hold it up to the light.
The pilot jet is long and thin.
You should be able to see through it. Clean it until you can.
With a "spray" can of carb cleaner, spray through every hole of the carb.
If the spray comes out a different hole, than that circuit is clear.
Since it's been sitting for a while, drain the gas and fill the tank with fresh gas.
Change the spark plug to rule that out and give you piece of mind.

I'm pretty sure your timing is just fine.. if I remember correctly, these had an electric fuel pump... trace the lines & see if you can find it... i replaced the faulty one on my old KLT with one from an auto parts store... make sure you have a good flow of fuel going to the carburetor, before you go nuts cleaning the carb. if theres a decent supply of fuel to the carb, take the carb off & take just the carb to the shop... most mechanics could clean it in a 10-15 minutes, easily..good luck

I think when they said out of time...they meant it no longer had any time left in this world. I didn't even know there were running 3 wheelers around anymore! Good luck...but it sounds like you got more trouble on your hands than you know.
